Description of 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 - 428 CJ |
The Mach 1 debuted for the 1969 model year as a step above GT package cars of previous years. It proved so popular that the GT name was dropped from 1970 and not revived until 1982. Like the GT before it, the Mach 1 was available with a variety of engines – starting with the 351-2V through the big-block 428 Cobra Jet. Ford had designed this new generation Mustang specifically to handle these larger engines and take the fight to GM and their big-block Camaros. This 1969 Mach 1 is a fully documented, numbers matching R-Code 428 Ram Air Cobra Jet. It is a complete, solid project needing some finishing and total reassembly. We purchased the car from who we believe to be the second owner. The body is straight and free of crash damage. The exterior has been painted, though the wheel arches, floors, trunk and engine compartment require finishing. Corrosion was limited to a small hole in the floor that still needs repair, otherwise the body is remarkably solid. The matching numbers 428 Cobra Jet engine is on a stand and has been tested for compression and found to be in excellent condition. Original options include:
Amazingly, the original interior and seats were in fantastic condition, with no rips, tears, damage or notable wear. It has been carefully stored and protected, and is ready to be re-installed. New carpets have been purchased and will be included. In fact, we have purchased thousands of dollars in parts to complete the project. While we cannot guarantee the presence of every nut or fastener, we can say with confidence that this car almost totally complete and will make for a straightforward restoration. More details:
