Description of 1949 Ford Other Pickups F2 Flathead V-8 |
|
This is a well preserved, running and driving, flathead V-8 powered 1949 Ford F-2 with a cancer free cab, doors, hood and tailgate. The only rust-through is confined to the bedsidesand lightly onrunning boards and fenders. My friend bought it as a project in 2010 (I helped him go pick it up). He has since become too ill to do anything and has asked me to sell it for him. It has been sitting in the dry, desert climate of Southern Utah (about 125 miles north of Las Vegas) since then. After all that time sitting I rigged up a gas can to the fuel pump and she started right up and I drove her around the block. For all I know the gas tank is perfectly clean as well. Carburetor could stand a rebuild. The 4 speed manual shifts nicely but leaks out of the tailshaft. It could also use a clutch adjustment or new clutch (synchros feel good). Electrical is still all six volt (battery is very tired). Brakes go to the floor so I'd plan on some work there. Included are a pair of new brake shoes and a wheel cylinder. I found a copper tag which says 8BA C2 NEW SHORT BLOCK ASSEMBLY 4.9.59 AH (see pics) which would suggest it has a newer flathead block installed. The interior is all original (and by that I mean worn). But everything is still there and nothing has been messed with. The dash looks good and has no cutting or butchery. All gauges and knobs are still there except the ignition switch and one knob below the dash. Button on left is used to start the engine. Aftermarket temperature gauge has been installed below dash. Flat glass looks decent (some delamination and cracking) but driver door glass is missing. The sheetmetal is really nice (especially the cab, doors, hood and tailgate) but the silly paint job is heinous. If it was my truck I'd gently sand past it to reveal the beautiful and original patina underneath (and then leave it that way). Cancer is confined to the running boards (very little), fenders (very little) and bed sides. Period correct steel wheels have tires with good tread but they're older and best considered rollers (I'm also including 5 vintage split rims with the truck). It has a 1961 Nevada license plate on back so I bet it spent a lot of its life in the desert of Southern Nevada.
