Description of 1966 Ford Mustang |
1965 Ford Mustang FastbackBarn FIND! Seems to be the word of the day. Everyone is yelling out BARN FIND. Now I have to do the same. This little fastback was put away some eight years ago when the owner took sick. When it was put away it was used often. It was a driver car needing nothing mechanically. It ran the best and was his pride and joy. We hauled it out of the barn on a rollback and all we have done to this classic was dust it off a little. and of course got it running. The motor is in excellent running condition. sounds good with no noises and difinitely does not smoke. To get it running our mechanic put on a new coil and if you are a ford nut you already know we put on a new solenoid on inner fender. I wonder how many million solenoids have been sold over the years? Another one of Fords "better ideas" None the less. we dumped gas in the Carb and it runs GREAT. He put a line and a jug under the hood so if anyone has the time to come inspect. they can hear it run. We did not want to get into the time and mess of fooling with the fuel system as it has that strong odor of varnish. The gas has turned from sitting and will be the job for the next owner to address. Gas Stinks. By the looks of this car it appears that it has been repainted only once in its life. Near as we can tell. The poppy red is what came on it in 1965. Paint has peeled and flaked in several spots so we think it is not the original paint. Where paint has peeled it is very solid in those areas. The trunk area looks to be solid and when painted it looks like they may have replaced brackets that spring shackles bolt up to. You can see new bolts in our pictures. bottom of car is not too hateful. If car is to be restored it will at least need one floor pan. Maybe driver side also. Down low on both fenders and low down on both doors. paint is bubbling or blistering. No doubt these areas will need help if repainting. The body looks very straight down the sides. All is well with all the window glass. Back hatch glass is perfect as is all glass and looks to have a slight tint to it. The shock towers look to be in excellent condition. We were just told by our local Mustang nut that shock towers are excellent top and bottom. Both high and low. Interior. All interior looks to be unmolested and i would guess all orginal. Don't know about the funky steering wheel. not sure what came in these cars. Both bumpers are very striaght and very solid. Of course both need replating for show car and even a driver car. Good year tires look like new. Wheels look good with nice beauty rings. There is no outside door lock in door on drivers side and we don't have it. Dash pad will need replaced. You can call me (Gary) at 812-584-4277 cell or 812-537-0585 shop for any questions. We have told you about all we can think of and nothing to hide. This car. if there is such a thing. will be an easy restoration. There is nothing wrong with this poontang that money won't fix. This has the potential to be a high dollar car. Come look it over.
