Description of 1969 Ford Galaxie 500 |
1969 Ford Galaxie 500, 23k miles, 390 cu in, 4 door sedan, automatic transmission. This car was owned by my grandparents who bought it new in 1969. After they died (1974 and 1985) it sat in a garage un-driven until 2006 when I had a shop replace the seals, hoses, battery, etc. (everything it needed). Since then it has remained in my aunt’s garage in southeastern Colorado and only gets driven whenever I visit her, which is once or twice a year. It runs great, but began leaking transmission fluid two years ago (a very slow leak), most likely because it is not driven often enough. The other thing I noticed during my last visit was that the brakes did not engage until the pedal was close to its limit, so I checked the brake fluid levels and found the rear reservoir was empty. I filled it and pumped the brakes a few times but the brakes did not appear to engage any sooner, but I think cars of that vintage need to have their brake lines bled whenever air gets into them. Other than the slow transmission leak there are no other leaks (oil, power steering, and coolant) and the car runs great. It has the original tires and they have plenty of tread, but the tires are 47 years old so you should not plan on driving it long distances at high speeds! They also remain inflated quite well, only occasionally requiring any air to be added. It also has the original factory plastic covering the seats (cars used to come from the factory this way). The rear seat belts have never been used and are still wrapped in plastic. Except for the following the car is in excellent condition. A chrome strip on the right side is missing and there is a scratch below it. The “FORD” emblem on the trunk is missing three letters. There is a small dent on the left front corner of the car, and a larger dent on the right front corner of the car. The upholstered dash has a crack in it. There are some paint spots of unknown origin on the right front fender. I took a number of photos in addition to the 12 shown here. I will be glad to send additional photos to serious buyers. Also, feel free to call me at 2o8-3o4-5228. It has a clear title. The car is located 10 miles northeast of Walsh, Colorado. Local pickup only. |
