Description of 1959 Ford Thunderbird |
BARN FIND!!!!! 1959 FORD THUNDERBIRD This car was accidentally found while on a visit for a totally different reason. After exploring the property we discovered this car and the owner worked on it 12 years ago and stopped working on it. He worked on the engine and transmission but never got it painted or finished with the restoration. He said it was repainted about 14 years ago. The car had several layers of dust on it when we backed it out of the barn. It actually runs now, and it is very strong. We've driven it around town. To make it safe to drive we replaced the brake system, new master cylinder, wheel cylinders, front shoes, all to the tune of over $800. Also replaced is the voltage regulator and new spark plugs for over $230. It runs like a champ now. Then wheels are Lincoln wheels, they look great on the car, you could paint the centercaps and leave them on. She was a dirty girl, but we've cleaned on her for days and she looks pretty darn good. We have some before and after pictures. Odometer reads 12,700+, not sure if original or if it is 112,700. Paint job is adequate for now, (15-20 foot paint job) but new owner will want to repaint it down the road. Interior seat covers, foam and interior carpeting were replaced the first year the previous owner had it. The two main window work fine. The two smaller window's motors work but could use some adjusting. No cracks in the glass and it appears to be the original glass. The previous owner took heater core out, it was leaking, and the replacement core is in the trunk ready to be replaced. Tires are in good condition. We may consider delivering the car for a fee if we have the time, within a general proximity of Memphis, TN |
