Description of 1965 Ford Mustang |
1964 ½ Ford Mustang Convertible VIN: 5F08F144651 Engine: 260 2v 2 barrel Transmission: Cruise-o-matic Auto Interior: Black Exterior: Burgundy This is a true American classic and the beginning to a new league of sports cars. The early Ford Mustangs are pure in design, offer solid American performance, and represent a golden era of automobile history. This 1964 ½ Convertible is an excellent example of the early production first generation Mustangs. With only 3 owners since new, the latest owner has been the caretaker for over 27 years. It has been very cared for and there are decades of documentation and records going back throughout the previous owners. As a convertible, much of its life was spent on the island Hawaii while being stored in a garaged climate. The Mustang was driven and enjoyed as one should be. Despite mild refurbishments, the car is highly original. It retains its original numbers matching F-code 260 engine as well as its Ford Cruise-O-Matic transmission. Currently, the Mustang is painted in a rich Burgundy. This original color is Wimbledon White as stated by the data plate. The bare metal color change was made in the eighties and presents itself very well. With the exception of minor chips and paint imperfections, the body is extremely solid. The undercarriage was lightly undercoated around the same time as the color change. This has very much preserved and protected the car from the elements. There are a couple small areas rust under the car that have been shown in the additional photos. For a car of its age, these are quite minor. The chrome, emblems, glass, seals and lights are all very much original to the car and show very well. The chrome especially, shines up beautifully. It has some pitting in areas, once again to be expected as original parts. The top operates as it should and was replaced not too long ago per the receipts included. Also included is the snap on top cover to which is free of tears and broken snaps. The car has its original hubcaps and wheels with very new tires. The center caps are intact but have some hairline cracks in the plastic. Overall, the exterior of the car should be described and a very well maintained driver condition. The interior of the car is black vinyl with several chrome accents. Once again, much is original with the exception of the front seats being recovered. Despite being in Hawaii, there is no sun damage or deterioration present. The carpets and dash are in excellent shape and free of tears and cracks. All of the gauges and lights work well and operate as they should. Also, the heat works along with the multiple speed fan. This Mustang is very comfortable to ride in, and has a very simple, classic, and clean feeling to it. As stated earlier, this is a number matching 64 ½ Mustang. The 2 valve 260 engine offers plenty of cruising power and is a great combination with this chassis. The engine was rebuilt in the 80s. There are receipts for a complete rebuild with many new internals. It feels very strong and responsive and operates smoothly. Oil pressure is strong and the temperature holds just as it should. Being an early production car, it retains the original generator which charges properly. The transmission is original to the car and was rebuilt several years ago. It shifts smoothly up and down and is a great mate for the 260. The car handles nice and tight and stops very well. Once again, there are several maintenance records related to the suspension, steering, and brakes. It is a car that anyone can jump into and feel comfortable driving. It was very well maintained in order to be a great driving car. This Mustang will offer its new caretaker a solid and beautiful driver’s car. It is not a concours car but can be taken to local show or used in parades as it once was. It is also a solid candidate for someone to take the car to the next level of a full restoration. Rarely do you find low ownership count with hundreds of records and documentation. The 1964 ½ Mustang Convertible is well suited for any collection. This is a great driving car with the classic American styling of the 60s. Please see all of the additional photos that include several detail shots.
