Description of 1956 Ford Thunderbird Convertible |
1956 Ford Thunderbird Convertible Exceptional frame off restoration completed in 2010 with gorgeous results! Rare 1956-only color of Goldenglow Yellow over perfect Colonial White interior. Fully rebuilt engine & transmission, complete suspension, fuel system, brakes, and more! Highly detailed inside, outside, and underneath making for a superb show worthy investment! Nothing overlooked and fitted with power steering, hardtop & soft top, wire wheel covers, and more! Gorgeous! Introduced in 1955, Ford’s Thunderbird was arguably a response to Chevrolet’s Corvette that dazzled the country in 1953. Although instead on competing directly in the sports car market, Ford instead strived to steal attention and launched the car in a new niche category, the “Personal Luxury Car”. These cars were, from the beginning, intended not for practicality but rather for function-follows-form touring. These buyers were wealthy and demanded the style, options and easy of drivability of the best cars on the road but with no sacrifice to comfort or reliability. As a result, it was customary to find cushioned rides and big V8 power plants, with automatic transmissions, and full power accessories as optional equipment. None did this better than the original 1955-57 “Baby bird” that remains a style icon almost 60 years later! We are incredibly excited to offer this 1956 Ford Thunderbird Convertible! Stunning does not begin to describe the shade of Goldenglow Yellow on this car; it is truly something that must be seen in person to be appreciated to the fullest! Complementing the exterior is a black cloth soft top and Colonial White vinyl interior that matches the data plate on the cowl. The car is powered by a completely rebuilt 312ci V8 and Fordomatic automatic transmission, with factory appointed 3.70:1 rear axle ratio. This car is fitted with great options such as power steering, auxiliary port-hole hardtop, engine dress-up kit, Custom Autosound AM/FM/cassette radio, fender skirts, and retrofitted Vintage Air self-contained HVAC system! The car rides on BF Goodrich Silvertown 4-ply wide whitewall tires measuring 6.70-15 all around accented with period correct wire spoke wheel covers. This beautiful frame-off restored Thunderbird was finished in 2010 and has covered less than 350 miles since! The car was discovered in California and traveled to Nashville, TN where it was restored under the watchful eye of Bob Pittman. The exterior paint, chrome, interior upholstery, and undercarriage can all be described as excellent. This car was completed with a careful attention to detail with nearly everything, on every surface, restored to a gloss or semi-gloss finish. Maintaining an original look was the priority, and as a result, the car will impress T-Bird enthusiasts all the while enabling the driver to enjoy the convenience of modern A/C and the added benefits of a complete 12-volt conversion. The engine bay is highly detailed with every individual component being restored prior to installation, all new hoses & clamps, completely new fuel system from the stainless steel gas tank all the way to the rebuilt carburetor, fully polished stainless steel exhaust system, etc. Underneath, the painted frame is complemented with all new or rebuilt suspension components, new brakes lines & components, new steering assembly, rear leaf springs & shocks, body mount hardware, and more! The car comes complete with matching chassis stamp presented on the passenger frame rail, restoration photo album, factory jack & lug wrench, trunk mat, tire changing instructions on trunk lid, and reproduction inspection stickers throughout. A very difficult car to criticize in person, it would be nearly impossible to duplicate the results for our asking price. We would welcome inspections or additional questions. We look forward to your business!
