Description of 1969 Ford Mustang |
Does this Mustang look fast to you? My friends, this 1969 Ford Mustang fastback IS fast. With a built 351 cubic inch Windsor V8, a 5-speed manual transmission, and a bunch of suspension upgrades, this is the resto-mod your mother warned you about.First off, that stunning burgundy paint has never looked so good as it does on the '69 Mustang fastback bodywork. Already one of the greatest designs of the muscle car era, the spectacular paint only adds to the appeal and you'll probably get tired of everyone asking you about it every time you stop. Or not, because EVERYONE thinks this is a gorgeous car, especially with that blacked-out hood. Fortunately, since the builder knew that all eyes would be on him, he made sure the work was done right, which means crisply rendered details, beautiful panel alignment, and a hand-rubbed finish that's hard to resist touching. All the cool Mustang performance details remain, including the chin spoiler, ducktail spoiler, and hood scoop. At the same time, there are a few custom details like the black grille, painted bumpers, and exactly zero stripes or decals that make it look very sleek and smooth. In fact, smooth is the perfect description of this Mustang, since all the emblems and extraneous trim has been shaved, letting the predatory shape speak for itself. The all-black interior sticks to the original design's intent, but takes it up a notch with custom Cobra bucket seats that hold you in place far better than the slippery original chairs. The door panels are beautifully rendered to match the new seats and the back seat was reupholstered to give the entire interior a very consistent look. New white-faced Auto Meter gauges fill the dash, visible through the spokes of a custom leather-wrapped 3-spoke wheel atop a tilt column, so it feels quite modern from the driver's seat. The transmission is a Tremec TKO 600 topped by a Hurst cue ball shifter for a vintage vibe, and the custom center console is a practical touch, complete with built-in cup holders that were sorely lacking in the original design. Finally, a great-sounding RetroSound stereo system and a modern A/C setup make this a car you could happily drive every day. And they didn't cut corners in the trunk, either, which is fitted with custom black carpets and a spare tire cover. The built 351 cubic inch V8 has more than enough power all by itself to make things very entertaining. It's a 1975 block with Roush200 heads, a FAST carburetor on an Edelbrock intake manifold, and exhaling through a set of long-tube headers, and all together it's making an estimated 450-500 horsepower at the crank. The fully dressed small block wears aluminum valve covers from Ford Racing so it looks clean, and functionally it's ready to rock with a big 3-core radiator, heavy-duty alternator, and a fresh rack-and-pinion steering setup. Dropped springs give it that awesome stance, Koni shocks nail it to the pavement, and the brakes have been upgraded to discs at all four corners. The throaty dual exhaust is a stainless Magnaflow setup, and out back a Mustang 9-inch rear ensures that breakage is a non-issue. Slick 18-inch Budnik wheels wear 255/45/18 front and 275/40/18 rear BFGoodrich G-Force radials.Fast, beautiful, and fully sorted, this is the kind of Mustang that you'll never get tired of driving or showing.
