Description of 1965 Ford GT40 MK1 Superformance |
Easily one of the nicest GT40 builds on the road, no expense was spared in building this car to be extremely powerful and reliable. AFTER the chassis was purchased (new Superformance chassis are $125k+), the owner pumped another $74k documented costs into building out a killer engine and making the car a track-day stunner. It's Gulf Blue with double white stripes with a black interior. Olthoff Racing built the car, and Keith Craft Racing built the engine. We won't even try to describe this one-owner masterpiece further. Instead, we're just going to list some of the items that went into it and publish the pictures. It speaks for itself. Engine: We've added up at least $54k alone in engine, transmission, lubrication and fuel systems. That's right - $54k. Line items include: 347 crate engine Fully machined Dart Sportsman Block Corteco Gasket Crower Lightweight 3.250" Crankshaft Maxi light Crower rods Diamond Lightened Pistons Total Seal Rings Federal Mogul Main Bearings Clevite bearings Balanced to 0 oz Comp Cams custom Grind solid roller camshaft Comp Hi Tech 6.700" pushrods ATI Damper w/ Lightweight hub Upgrade New Front cover Ford Racing Short Front Cover AFR 195 cylinder heads add PAC Beehive Springs and Titanium Retainers (11:1 compression) T&D Rockers Edelbrock INT MAN VICT JR. 302 Port Matched Quick Fuel Custom Carb Black Diamond Finish MSD Ford Billet Distributor Moroso KC Logo Wires Slant Edge Ford Racing Valve Covers Serpentine front drive system Aviad dry sump pump with drive and oil pan Fluidyne oil cooler McLeod clutch ZF Transaxle Aluminum Flywheel Fuel Safe fuel cells with aluminum cans and sending unit Megaphone exhaust Ceramic exhaust system coating Some output numbers: 455 hp at 4900rpm, 570 hp at 7000rpm, with 563 at 7500rpm Redline 8000 Max torque is 465 lb ft at 4900. Transmission ratios: 1 - 2.58 2 - 1.47 3 - 1.04 4 - .846 5 - .704 4.22 final drive According to the previous owner, at 7000 rpm this equals roughly 118 mph in 3rd, 155 mph in 4th and close to 200 mph in 5th.
