Description of 1979 Ford F-250 Custom

Up for auction is very clean, mostly original 1979 Ford F250 Crew Cab 2 wheel drive pickup with Custom trim level. This pickup has been in dry Southwestern Nebraska since it was new. First owned and used by Brooks Ford of Oxford, Nebraska as the owners own vehicle, then was purchased by Richard Pierce of Stratton, Nebraska where he used it on his farm and ranch operation. Use on the farm and ranch shows with the dents, scrapes, and paint chips. After Rich's passing, his 2 sons inherited it, and I purchased it from them. The owner of Brooks Ford did not like the factory color of the two-tone paint, and had white painted over the original light tan/saddle color. The original tailgate is included, but is not usable from being hit by a goose neck trailer hitch. Other than that, the exterior is all original from what I know of or could find. When I purchased it, the pickup was not running. The following is a list of repairs we made-

  • Drop both fuel tanks, clean, install new sender in main tank
  • Install new fuel line hoses
  • Rebuild carburetor and adjust
  • Replace water pump, timing cover gaskets
  • Replace valve cover gaskets
  • Replace spark plugs
  • Changed engine oil and filter
  • Replaced transmission filter and pan gasket
  • Replaced all coolant hoses and heater water valve
  • Replaced A/C condenser to expansion valve hose, evacuated, and charged with R134-a
For the interior, the original saddle colored vinyl front seat cover was worn out as was the rubber flooring. We removed both seats and recovered with black vinyl to match the factory black door panels and black dash. Removed the old flooring, the front floor pans had surface rust. Cleaned rust from floor pans, applied rust converter, and applied 2 coats of frame coat paint to seal it up and prevent it from rusting again. Then installed new 2 piece rubber flooring and trimmed it to match the original. The door striker bolts were all missing the plastic roller, so we installed 4 new striker bolts. The rear window rubber grommet was cracked and the window had old purple tint on it. Removed the window, cleaned it of the tint, and reinstalled with a new rubber grommet. The dash lights and dome light are not working, and the fuel gauge does not work for the rear auxiliary fuel tank.

The exterior was washed and then polished to the shine it shows now. There was 2 hub caps missing, we found 2 more to match the original although they did not polish up as nicely as the ones that were with the pickup. The right side has a dent/scrape from the rear door to the rear wheel well, luckily the crew cab specific race track trim was not damaged. On the hood, the paint is thin and primer showing on the very rear edge and one small area towards the right rear of the hood. The only 2 rust bubbles found were on the very rear lower corner of the drivers door, and the left rear quarter panel of the box where the inner support attaches to panel. The rear left quarter panel is bent in, as is the very front of the front right fender. Inside the box, there is surface rust towards the front, none of it is rusted through. The goose neck hitch is bolted through the box to the frame, but did not have enough spacers between the box and frame, so the bed floor is bowed down in this area. Original tailgate is included, but had been hit by a goose neck hitch and is not usable. The expanded metal tail gate is functional, but is not simple to get shut.

The wheels are original 16.5", with tires that have a lot of tread, but the tires are old and weather checked/cracked.
