Description of 1940 Ford Other Deluxe |
1940 Ford is such a legendary car and with so many hot rods made too, it gets harder to find an example with a great story. This 40 though has been somewhat of a time capsule! The Ford was restored in the late 80's and essentially parked after being restored in a dry California garage. It sat and sat, being started often, but rarely moving. It has been a little unclear to me, but it seems like the owner got sick after finishing the job. It was finally removed the garage recently and started right up. It is a PERFECT base to either tinker and have a great period hot rod or change a couple things and have a modern rod again! In the 80's clearly time and money were spent on the car. The frame and underside are gorgeous. The metal is totally rust free, and no mounds of filler to be found! The engine was swapped to Chevy 350 with a TH350 trans and AC was installed. The engine starts right up and runs smoothly. Could likely use a little carb cleaning, more fresh gas run through, tune up etc, but runs well enough that she can drive around down smoothly. The AC compressor turns on, but blow warm. The body and frame are in very nice condition! The frame is painted, the underside painted with only a few areas of chips or small mars in the paint that have made some light surface oxidation at worst. Some light moisture on some seals and such but a very clean underside even after its years sitting! SoCal is so so kind to cars! The body appears very solid, no damaged metal, no rust or rust repair is apparent. Very nice. The paint is a little faded from age, but has only minor flaws. Some small cracks here and there and a few chips/scuffs, etc. The chrome is nice shape with some minor pitting and flaws but is very presentable. Solid running boards. Check out the underside pics! The interior is remarkably nice. Seats in great shape, power windows work, power locks work but a little weak, period radio works! The steering wheel is missing the horn button and the odometer and speedometer are not working. True miles since resto unknown because of this, but odo shows 3 miles. Dome lights work on the center console. Suspension is a little bouncy from old shocks, which is quite an easy and cheap fix. Brakes work, but I would suggest going through them since it has been sitting. Front disc, rear drum. The gas tank has a few places where paint is peeling. This 40 would need very little to be a ready to drive rod for shows or drives. Or, with all the great work that was done already, refresh a few things here and there, new wheels and a few modern updates and have a modern 40 Ford hot rod for much less money then building one. Super cool and being offered with NO RESERVE! Feel free to ask me any questions at all. Residents around the country I am happy to be flexible for your arranged shipper so that you can get your new car as soon as possible. My standard disclaimer/mantra for any car regardless of service or price: The car is sold with no warranty. You are buying a used car. Eventually every car will break, if you find one that doesn't please let me know. I do my ABSOLUTE BEST to describe accurately the shape of the truck, but keep in mind it is impossible to discuss every detail of a car for better or worse. I am just a guy who loves Fords (among other cars) and hope to pass along my passion and fervor for these cars. That said if ever you encounter an issue I do my best to provide advice, direction or even parts if I have them. Please understand that it is a used car and will have signs of use despite its restoration. That means please do not expect a showroom brand new car. Please adjust your expectation level to that of a car that has been sitting for many years but is near ready to cruise with some light work. Please only bid if you intend to buy. If you would like to have an Ebay 3rd party mechanic service check out the car I MORE than welcome it. Please have the car checked out before bidding and not after, if you intend to use that service. And please, if you would like to utilize this service, contact me with more than a couple days left in the auction so we can arrange schedules. Please check your local laws and registration procedures before buying. Buying over the internet can be scary sometimes! I get it, because I am an enthusiast too!! For that very reason, I am more than happy to answer every and any question you may so you know 100% what you are buying. But, please ask any and all questions ahead of purchase! It is impossible to list every pro and con of a car, I am not an inspection service, it is your responsibility as a buyer to do your due diligence and inspect the car. All sales are final, you are buying as-is, the sky is blue, etc, etc. Sorry to have to give the boring speech! On Feb-20-17 at 11:16:36 PST, seller added the following information: Also, please note, the tires are very old with 1987 date codes. They still have the little mold buttons on them and are virtually unused, but they are flatspotted from sitting and will need to be replaced as they rumble/vibrate while driving. But nice easy sizes to find and cheap to replace. |
