Description of 1966 Ford Mustang

Early Mustangs are the universal collector car, beloved by all and a lot of fun to own. And despite that huge popularity, cars like this 1966 Ford Mustang convertible remain eminently affordable. With V8 power, period A/C, and a fantastic color combination, this is the one you've always wanted to own. This handsome ragtop has been repainted at some point using the original code U Tahoe Turquoise, which you don't see too often these days. You've seen a lot of tired old Mustangs running around, and this most certainly is NOT one of them. Thanks to a life down south, body gaps are very good, the surface finish of the paint has a nice vintage gloss, and it feels far more substantial than you'd expect from a 50-year-old ragtop. And since so many Mustangs are repainted bright red, this one stands out so if you want to get noticed, this is a great way to do it. Also unlike most Mustangs, this one remains true to its original specs, including the '289' badges on the front fenders, which it comes by honestly (note the 'C' as the fifth digit in the VIN). The chrome bumpers are in excellent shape, probably new when the car was repainted, while the inserts in the C-scoops on the quarters are probably original and in decent condition. The two-tone turquoise and white interior wears top-of-the-line Pony upholstery that is quite likely original. Considering that it's 50 years old, the seats are in excellent condition with a few popped seams but nothing that requires replacement and you just can't beat the look. Complementary wood accents on the steering wheel, dashboard, and center console warm up the otherwise cool-colored Mustang interior and it actually makes for a very upscale look. All 1966 Mustangs got the 1965 GT 5-gauge instrument panel and there's dealer-installed A/C under the dash (needs to be serviced). There's the original AM radio in the dash and in case you didn't realize, Mustangs were the first domestic production car with standard seat belts. Newer Turquoise carpets were installed a while ago and tie everything together nicely. The white power convertible top is a little discolored but on a Mustang ragtop, you're probably never going to see it anyway and the trunk is nicely finished with a plaid mat and full-sized spare tire with jack. There's a correct C-code 289 cubic inch V8 under the hood and it remains almost completely stock, right down to the exhaust and 2-barrel carburetor. It's not a screamer, but rather it purrs quietly at idle but has authoritative torque out on the road that makes the Mustang fun to drive. The underhood look is quite stock, with Ford Blue on the air cleaner and engine itself, while most of the other parts are satin black, as they should be. The A/C compressor dominates the upper engine, but a glance underneath will reveal power steering (a nice perk on a Mustang!) and stock cast iron exhaust manifolds feeding a proper single exhaust system. The freshly rebuilt C4 3-speed automatic transmission has quick shifts and an easy demeanor, and there are easy-cruising 2.80 gears out back, so it feels relaxed no matter what it's doing. Other goodies include a new gas tank, correct reinforcements under the chassis, and handsome steel wheels with wire hubcaps and 195/75/14 whitewall radials. This is the Mustang you've always wanted, great colors, V8 power, and nice options, all priced right and ready to go. Don't wait, call now!
