Listed in Shelby Registry (1967) SFM6S1967, Hertz Rent-A-Racer Extensive restoration including paint and body - Stripped and repainted in 2015 by Richie's Performance Body Shop in Shelby, North Carolina. Matching numbers 289 CI V-8 engine rebuilt in 2015 by The Speed Company in Charlotte, North Carolina. Ford enjoyed a series of marketing victories in the early '60s, one of which was replacing Chevrolet as the supplier to car rental giant Hertz. Carroll Shelby capitalized on the new relationship, sending Shelby American GM Peyton Cramer to pitch the new GT350 as a replacement for Corvette in Hertzs Sports Car Club. Armed with research on Hertzs beginnings in the business, Cramer pitched a fleet of Hertz Shelbys finished in Raven Black with Gold striping, reflecting the companys long-time corporate color scheme. Hertz management loved the idea, and just before Christmas 1965, Shelby American received a demand letter from Hertz for 1,000 GT350s. The new Hertz Shelbys reflected most of the changes made to 1966 Shelbys. Functional body-side brake cooling scoops were added, quarter windows replaced the stock Mustang air extractor louvers a Cobra tachometer replaced the 1965 dash gauge pod, and most cars were produced with a folding rear seat in place of the fiberglass rear shelf. Today the GT350H Rent-A-Racer is one of the most desirable Shelbys of all. Documented in the Shelby Registry, serial number SFM6S1967 was originally sent to Larsen Ford in White Plains, New York, for dealer preparation prior to delivery to Hertz New York. This car boasts factory-correct Raven Black and Gold paint, masterfully applied in 2015 by Richies Performance Body Shop in Shelby, North Carolina, during a recent paint and body restoration when this Shelby was stripped down to bare metal. The factory-original, matching-numbers 289 CI V-8 engine was rebuilt by The Speed Company in Charlotte, North Carolina, and is now mated to an upgraded 5-speed manual transmission. This 1966 Shelby GT350H Fastback retains much of its original aspects, including its original Holley Lemans center-hung carburetor, correct open-letter intake manifold, open-letter valve cover, T oil pan, 9-inch rear end with locker, magnum 500 Hurst wheels and factory seats and interior.
