Description of 1966 Ford Mustang

While some of you might remember when early Mustangs were cheap beaters, your kids will never know that cars like this gorgeous 1966 Ford Mustang GT coupe were anything but cherished heirlooms. It's a real-deal GT with an A-code 289, making it the ideal Mustang for the guy who has perhaps outgrown his urge to make trouble but still wants to look like he could if he wanted to.Code Z Sauterne Gold was this car's original color, but when it was repainted just recently, it got a lovely coat of what looks like code Y Silver Blue. That beautiful paint job is no joke, either, because every square inch of this car glistens like it's still wet, and the sheetmetal underneath looks like it just popped out of the press. A lot of the cost was time, and you can see the investment in the way the doors fit, the way the hood closes with just the pressure of your fingertips, and the finish has been color-sanded and buffed to an extreme shine. Bear in mind the cost of that paint job while looking at the price, too, because this car was put together as someone's keeper, not a quick fluff-and-buff to make a buck. Of course, when the paint looks that good, the trim needs to be up to the same levels, so the bumpers wear fresh plating, the stainless was polished, and all the little stuff was restored or replaced to make it all look equally spectacular. Even the white stripes along the rockers look like they were applied with a laser. And it does carry all its proper GT equipment, from the fog lamps up front to the twin trumpet exhaust out back, and it's all legit. But as nice as the paint is, the interior will simply break your heart. Sure, the Pony interior always looks great, but somehow this two-tone blue and white combination is especially appealing. The seat covers have that soft shine that only comes from correct materials, and the embossed running ponies on the seatbacks are crisp and vivid, the sign of the high-dollar stuff, not the cheap covers. A custom center console is a great addition to any Mustang, as is the quick-shifting automatic transmission that's always ready to rock. The gauges are original and still in nice shape, framed by the wood-rimmed steering wheel and woodgrained instrument panel, indicative of the upscale Deluxe Interior. An AM/FM/cassette stereo head unit lives in the center of the dash, and seat belts were standard equipment on the Mustang, which was the first car to include them. The trunk is as neatly finished as the rest of the car, and sports a correct plaid mat that looks great. The engine is a correct A-code 289 cubic inch V8, fully restored and highly detailed. Framed by an export brace to stiffen the front suspension, the snarky small block sounds awesome and moves the coupe with authority. Ford Blue paint looks great accented by the finned "COBRA" air cleaner and valve covers, and the satin black inner fenders are in awesome condition. Of note, this car also carries optional power steering and power front disc brakes, which were standard on the GT, making it the kind of car that you'll appreciate most after a long day and a comfortable drive home is something to savor. Experts will also note that the body buck tag is still in place and carries a correct POI code, which is more evidence that this is a real GT. Out back, there are highway-friendly 3.00 gears and it wears classic Cragar SS wheels and 195/75/14 BFG radials.Beautifully finished, this lovely Mustang GT covers all the bases: fast, comfortable, stylish, and extremely entertaining.
