Description of 1974 Ford Econoline |
So you missed your chance to own one of Ford's coolest vans back in the '70s? Well, don't fret about it, because this 1974 Ford Econoline 200 Turtle Top is about as close as you're going to get to a brand new one. With that great '70s look, this is a head-turner from an era when vans were not bashful about combining earth-tone colors. The two-tone green and yellow paint looks period-perfect on the van's sheet metal, and the shine is worlds better than mid-70s technology would have permitted. It was repainted a few years ago and still looks great, and it's nice to see that someone thought this van was worthy of a fairly expensive paint job. The trim is largely original, with bright chrome bumpers and a very nicely preserved grille up front. The interior definitely has a 1970s vibe and will sleep 4 if you throw the kids up in the canvas cots in the ceiling (see photos). The engine is the original 302 cubic inch V8 which starts and runs great. The C6 3-speed automatic transmission shifts cleanly and power steering make it a snap to handle. The Van drives straight down the road and the steering is fairly tight and is actually fun to drive with the steering wheel so horizontal compared to contemporary vehicles. With a little interior TLC, this van could make an awesome vintage RV. |
