Description of 1957 Ford Sedan Delivery |
1957 ford 1957 Ford Courier Sedan Delivery Restoration Finished in 2009 Had 32k Miles at time of Restoration 34k Miles are on it now. *390 ci V8 Engine Rebuilt In 2009 (2000 miles ago) C6 Transmission with a shift kit Rebuilt in 2009 (2000 miles ago) New Upholstery installed in 2009 New Carpeting and Headliner installed in 2009 New Paint and Body work Completed In 2009 New Tires 2009 (still new) About this car: The Ford Courier Sedan Delivery was built between 1952 and 1960 as a solution for those who needed cargo space but didn't want or didn't need a truck. Ford developed the the Sedan Delivery on the 1956 sedan platform - which itself was an updated version of the iconic 1955 Ford. Ford built just 6,178 Couriers in 1957 and many (if not most) saw a hard life as a delivery vehicle for stores across the USA, they were used by everyone from florists and bakers, to builders and plumbers. Very few survived more than 20 or so years due to their hard lives and lack of perceived value - and they're now a rare sight on the road. The '57 Sedan Delivery you see here is likely one of the nicest examples you'll find outside of a museum - it's been through a body-off restoration in the hands of Jerry Miller Classic Cars & Restorations in Arkansas. During the restoration process a 212bhp, 292 cubic inch Y-block V8 was fitted with a Ford-O-Matic 3-speed transmission, this engine was used in place of the typically installed Mileage Maker 6-cylinder engine - which although economical (for the era) tended to leave a lot to be desired from a performance perspective. From 1957 onwards Ford used a new tailgate design for the Sedan Delivery that involved the whole thing lifting up and sitting in a raised position with a brace on the left hand side. The flat bed in the back made the model popular with young men in the years after its working life was past - for surf trips and the seduction of young women (much to the chagrin of their fathers). ...from http://silodrome.com/ford-courier-sedan-delivery-car/ Description: The car has been meticulously cared for. *The paint has never been washed with soap. *This car has seen only 1 night out of a garage since restoration. *The paint has never been polished since receiving it from the paint shop - so the clear coat is thick and untouched! *A car cover (seen in the pics) has always been on the vehicle in the garage. *It has only been driven to and from car shows/cruise ins - and has won several prizes! The Jump Seat pictured above does fold down flat to make a total cargo area in back. It was added because the previous owner liked carrying more than 2 people around. The paint on this car is in excellent shape, but there are a few minor blemishes. A couple months ago, after showing the car the garage door scraped the paint on both rear tail fins because the car had not been pulled in quite far enough :( Another blemish is where the hood opens there is some paint chipping right near the hing point on the passenger side. The driver door leading edge also has some chipping on it because it began rubbing against the front driver side fender. There are a few various minor scratches and imperfections, but all pretty minor. Just above the driver door on the roof there is a crack in the paint that is pretty minor also, but it is the worst of the damage to the paint. Other damage includes the original rear window that is 60 years old and has some scratches on it. Also the rear bumper has lots of little tiny shallow scratches. It was never re-chromed, and might not be a bad idea to have that done. A bidder requested Pics of the underside of the car, so I took some pics and will post them below: Above: Underside of front Driver side. Below: Underside of front Passenger side. As you can see the underside of the car is very clean. There is areas of treated rust - like on the frame - treated 9 years ago when it was restored and still in great shape. The tank was new 9 years ago - even the exhaust is 9 years old and it still looks new. Terms: This car is located in Prineville Oregon 97754.
