Description of 1964 Ford Thunderbird Landau |
1964 Thunderbird project with the 390 auto I have been working on it on and off for 3 years and have realized it is just too much for me to handle so I am ready to move on and hope someone else can finish and enjoy it. It had an engine fire when I bought it. The engine bay was burned (hoses/wiring) and the fire went through the firewall and burned the dash and the wiring behind it. The car sat for close to 20 years from what I was told which is why there was very little rust. The body/frame/etc.. is not rotted through anywhere.. only surface rust underneath as you can see from the pictures and the Landau top is in great shape. Some of the interior and exterior trim pieces were discolored but I have extra pieces. The motor turns over really well but I haven't had it started. I don't know the condition of the transmission. OPTIONS:Power Steering... Power Disc Brakes... A/C... Power Windows.. Power Driver's Seat...Convenience Package: Low Fuel Light/Flashers/Power Door Locks...Rear Seat Map Lights... Remote Driver's Side Mirror INTERIOR:The dash and everything under the dash (wiring/hoses/heater box) including some of the console pieces (radio/heater control/clock/etc..) was destroyed in the fire.I gutted the interior as you can see in the pics and am in the process of sound proofing it. I sprayed rubberized undercoating and then added soundproof padding. I have the new headliner rods installed but have not installed the headliner.. It needs the tack strips.I bought a dash that is in great shape and painted it black and Palomino. I bought a speedometer/gauge cluster setup and painted it black and lined the numbers.I bought a refurbished original radio.I bought a convenience package setup (It did come with the car originally) that goes in the dash: Low Fuel/Flashers/Door Locks.. I have two sets of door lock actuators. The driver's door panel is in excellent shape but the passenger door panel was burned so I bought one which is pretty good shape but needs to be painted,Back seats are cleaned up and look good.. Slight fading but not bad.Front seats need cleaning up and the chrome trim needs polished/redone.The heater box was destroyed in the fire but I got a different one to replace it. EXTERIOR:New paint all around including engine bay, trunk lid, door jambs.Trunk has been sprayed withrubberized undercoating. The tire jack is there and I cleaned some of the pieces and painted them. The hood is in primer and will need only minor body work to be nice. USED PARTS:I bought a 1965 Thunderbird for parts.I took the complete wiring harness and front disc brakes. Also some other misc parts.I bought a refurbished radioI have the heater box from the '65 and bought an extra heater box(before I bought the '65)A lot of extra trim pieces NEW PARTS:Oil pump, Fuel pump, Water pump, Distributor, Gas tank, Fuel Pump w/low fuel, Fuel lines, brake lines, rear brake hose, rear brakes/drums, headliner, battery, starter, Trans filter/gasket(not installed),Driveshaft U-Joints (not installed). I had the radiator, expansion tank and trans cooler rebuilt and tested. Obviously nothing in the interior has been installed yet.I did install the engine bay wiring but not all connections have been made. I have most parts to complete it but it still needs an alternator, an A/C setup (ebay $600), all hoses for the engine and vacuum hoses (interior), Brake booster/master cylinder/proportioning valve. It may need some of the electrical for the interior(power window switches/under dash misc, etc..).The brake calipers need to be rebuilt or just buy new ones. It needs a windshield and carpet too.It needs tires.. they hold air but I'm sure they are too old to be used safely on the road. I'm sure I have forgotten to mention a few things so please ask questions.I will add items as I remember them. |
