Description of 1966 Ford Mustang GT Convertible |
Up for bid is a 1966 Mustang GT convertible 4 speed project. The data plate decodes as follows. Warranty Number: 6T08A269334Year: 6 1966 Plant: T Metuchen. NJ Body Series: 08 Convertible Engine: A 289 4v V8 Unit: 269334 269334 Miscellaneous Vehicle DataBody: 76A Convertible. Standard Interior Color: T Candyapple Red Trim: 26 Black Crinkle Vinyl and Black Rosette Vinyl. Standard Interior Date: 23E May 23. 1966 D. S. O: 17 Washington Axle: 1 3. 00:1. Conventional Trans: 5 4-Speed Manual This is a genuine GT convertible 4 speed Mustang that still retains quite a few of its original parts but as you can see it is a project car. The car has all the original VINs that were stamped by Ford. It still has the original door plate and buck tag as pictured. The reinforcement plates under the back seat for the dual exhaust are still in place as pictured. There is no denying that the car is rusty and will need extensive rust repair to restore. It is a project that I will never get around to so I am passing it on to someone that can devote the time and money required to restore this car. I would consider this restoration beyond the capability of the home restorer. This car has been hit in the right front. There is a small kink in the frame forward of the shock tower. Both front frames are rusty on the top where the shock tower forms a pocket. The rest of the front frames look very nice and are better than most old mustangs that I see. The inner rockers will need replacing along with the front torque boxes. Drivers side rear toque box is not looking and may need replaced. Passengers side rear torque box maybe able to be saved. The rear floors will need replaced but the front floors may be able to be sectioned and just replace the outer part of the floor. The rear frame rails seems solid except for a rust hole on the rear of the drivers side where the shackle attaches. I would section the frame or patch it. The trunk floor is solid except where the gas tank attaches and that is completely rotted. Looking at the front cowl from below there is no visible rust or holes. The doors look usable and do not appear to have rust holes on the inside but probably require skins. All this damage is visible in the pictures. I am not hiding anything and I want to buyer to get a really good idea of what he is getting without having to travel to look at the car. As with all cars with this type of rust a proper assessment can't really be done until the car is stripped and medial blasted. Included with the car is everything you see. There is no engine. transmission or drive shaft. no spindles or front brakes. The original 8 inch differential is still in the car. The top structure is there but there are no latches on it. Also missing are the rams for the power top but the motor is still in place. The plate that goes under the drive shaft between the left and right seat box structure is still there. The jelly jar master cylinder is still on the car and may be rebuildable but the proportioning valve is missing. The convertible door glass is still in the doors and is the original tinted glass as stated on the buck tag. The quarter glass is not in the car. The car is located at a well know Mustang restoration shop in Colorado Springs that has been in business for 35 years. The car was brought into the state by a military member in the early 80's and has a clean Virginia title. I can answer any questions you have or send you any additional pictures that your would like. If you would like to talk on the phone about this car just shoot me an email and I will give you the phone number to the shop. If you are looking for additional parts to complete this project some parts maybe available but would need to be negotiated separately from this sale. The buyer is responsible for picking up or shipping the car. We can help with loading. We are able to load even without front suspension. We can bring the car to you if the distance is not too great but that would have to be worked out after the sale is complete. A $500 non-refundable deposit is due within 24 hours of the end of the auction using Paypal. Final payment is due before the car is picked up or shipped. Any checks including cashiers checks must clear the bank prior to releasing the car. I have this car offered locally and reserve the right to end the auction early. On Feb-07-15 at 19:23:15 PST. seller added the following information: I have been informed that the "Tint" on the buck tag does not mean Sun-X side glass as I stated in my write up. It means tined windshield. Sorry for any confusion. I will verify if the side glass is tinted. |
