Description of 1977 Ford F-250 Ranger |
Up for sale is my 1977 Ford F-250 4X4 Factory Highboy Ranger Edition Pickup Truck. I bought this truck with big plans but reality has set in and with my teenage daughter now driving its just not a practical everyday truck for myself. I will describe each section of the vehicle below so please read carefully and look at all pictures (ask for additional pictures if needed). It is sold as described to the best of my knowledge... I would never purposely leave details out or try to trick someone into buying something they don't want so please ask any questions you may have and I will do my best to answer them. The truck is a very good truck and please don't feel like I am trying to make it sound bad by pointing out all the little details because I just want to be thorough, most issues are very minor. You can get in this truck and drive it away today and it also looks great! The vehicle has a clear and clean Oregon Title in my name (although I just titled it with new 2 year tags and have not received it back in the mail yet. I have proof of DMV Transaction and will include a bill of sale and forward the title as soon as it arrives which should be in a week or 2). Exterior Description: Brown and tan color combo is awesome! Body mostly straight with some small dings, scratches, flaking clear coat and blemishes. Some rust bubbles and rust through near the bumper on driver's side (see picture). There is missing trim on the passenger side rear, which I have the larger piece but is still missing the smaller section (see picture). The main issues with the exterior is the rust in the floor of the bed (see picture), it is very bad and goes clear through! I drive with a piece of plywood and rubber mat which works fine. I believe it could be repaired but I also think it would make a sweet flat bed truck also if you didn't want to deal with the rust. Overall in my opinion the truck has a very nice and straight body but not perfect, just right for driving it up in the mountains and not having to worry about it but yet nice enough to get some looks when cruising around town. Wheels and Tires: Has nice aftermarket wheels with some wear and minor blemishes. Tires will need replaced in the near future but still have tread and are quite usable for awhile. I do not have a spare tire for the truck. Engine & Transmission: This Truck has the 400 engine with an automatic transmission. Not sure how many miles are on it (odometer reads 70,500). Last owner who had it for 25 years rebuilt the engine about 10,000 miles ago and it seems to run great! Very powerful and it looks nice as well! No major mechanical issues I am aware of and I have been driving it daily. It may be due for an oil change but nothing engine related would prevent you from driving it home. Its a bit cold starting and I usually have to pump it several times to get it to start or hold the gas down, but it always fires up. Transmission leaks a little but shifts perfectly fine. I have not used the 4 wheel drive much but I believe it works fine according to previous owner and I did have to use it one day to get out of some mud and slick grass, so I don't think there are any issues with it. Interior: The interior seat is very nice! Dash pad and door panels all look good! There is some wear and blemishes of course but nothing major. Headliner has some dingy marks and it needs a new dome light. The carpet should be replaced because the driver's side has got wet from a leaky seal around the front windshield. It has spent a lot of time indoors but it has been outside enough to leak on carpet causing a bit of a musty, mildew smell. Original steering wheel has been replaced with a small steering wheel that works fine... I am just not a big fan, I like the large Ford steering wheels. The radio comes on but I can never get a station in very clear nor very loud. Overall interior is in really nice shape for the year! Known Issues:- Again I will mention the rust through in the bed since I feel this is the biggest defect with the truck (see picture).- There are three openings for gas tanks but unfortunately only the tank behind the driver's seat is usable currently. The open hole has a tank but is missing the cap and piece of hose and the rear tank is just a door with nothing inside.-The driver's side door seal is loose and needs replaced (you can see it hanging down in one of the interior photos) I have that replacement seal and it will be included withsale of the truck... the other side has already been replaced recently.-Rear window and front windshield both need new seals since the leak a little and as I already mentioned the front windshield leak has caused the carpet to get dingy on passenger side and has a bit of a musty smell.-Truck is cold starting but always fires with multiple pumps of the gas. Sometimes it sounds like the battery is weak but I just had it tested and they said it was a good, strong battery... again it has never not started and always fires up!- Transmission leaks and there is also a leaking rear axle pinion seal that I have a replacement for that will be included.- According to previous owner a u-joint or something needs replaced, he says it makes the steering have some play in it. To be honest I don't really notice because most Ford trucks I have owned had some play in the steering. But I believe you can hear it clunk a little too occasional but still perfectly driveable.- I also notice some noise that I believe comes from the brakes. Brakes work well, with no issues stopping but I hear a noise when going slow through town that goes away as soon as I hit the brakes. I am definitely not a mechanic so I really can't tell you what it is or explain it very well but it does not appear to effect anything but may be something to check out before driving a far distance.-That is about all I can think of again if there is something else I remember I will add it to the description Overall its a good vehicle that you can drive home (depending on how far of course... I would have it tuned up or checked out if taking it out of state for I haven't made any long, long drives in it). With a little work it can be a great restoration project or just an ultimate outdoor rig! I love the look of it and it definitely will be missed! Again ask questions if you have any! Thanks!
