Description of 1979 Ford F-250 CUSTOM 4X4 |
VINTAGE CLASSIC 1979 FORD F-250 4x4 Clean and solid old ford. This was owned by the same local gentleman from 1981-2017. It's a great truck for restoration. Very good body with only one spot of rust behind one rear wheel. That's it. Below are all the details on the Ford. I do have many more pics I can send also. Email me if your interested in doing something early on it. This pickup has what looks to be the original 351m V8. Valve cover states this also. If anyone cares if it is number matching, I can check it out. The pickup runs fine but it does smoke some. When I got the truck, it had sat for a few years. It smoked when I got it running. It smoked pretty good until I took it for a short drive on the highway. The next day I started it, and it did not smoke. Sometimes old-timers would put marvel mystery oil in the cylinders of rigs they were not using, to keep the rings from rusting if they are not being driven. I'm not sure if that is the case here. It may just need the heads rebuilt/valve guides. It may need a ring job. It's ok if you don't rev it up much, but smokes if you do. The engine runs smooth and quiet and doesn't knock. Good oil pressure. Does not overheat. No water in the oil or oil in the water. The 4-speed transmission and clutch work as they should. The brakes, lights, wipers, heater, and speedometer work. The fuel gauge does not work but the temperature and oil pressure gauges do work and it has good oil pressure. This has an aftermarket saddle tank that is hidden. I have not tried to use it. The 4x4 works but it will need at least one U-joint in the front end. It vibrates when the shifter is in, but not out, so it most likely is an axle joint. It drives nice besides that. The roads were icy when I drove it so I didn't go fast but the front-end felt tight and it drives straight. I drove 55-60. Alternator works but makes a noise like a bearing is going out. They are cheap to replace. Wheels/tires/hubcaps in the pics are 16.5's and not included. I borrowed them off another pickup of mine to see what it would look like. It will come with stock steel ford 16" non-split wheels. The exhaust is dual, and needs mufflers. Besides the engine, this truck needs very little mechanical work to be a daily driver. It could stop smoking completely, or not. I wouldn't count on it but I've had rigs that do clear up after going on a good drive. My '69 skylark does that every year. It's weird but every year it smokes when I start it, and will not stop smoking until I drive it. Then it won't smoke again until the next spring. The way this truck is now, I would drive it locally no problem. I'm in a small town in Montana though lol, and it may not be usable in a larger town. These engines are relatively easy and inexpensive to rebuild or replace the long block. Used runners are cheap also. Several methods are available also to easily put a chevy LS in this truck, and retain the original transmission or use a chevy transmission. BODY
INTERIOR The interior has the usual wear and damage for an un-restored '79. Pictures tell the story. Dash is cracked but usable. Floormat has some rips. headliner is gone (cheap and easy to replace). Door panels usable but damaged/worn. Seat has wear/rips on the drivers seat area. It's comfortable though and springs are not bad. Radio does not work. Some dash light bulbs need replaced. OVERALL This is a solid ford for restoration, or do some work to it and drive it as-is. The '73-'79 fords are very popular models, and tons of restoration parts are available. Anything you would need basically. Thanks and happy bidding. Sold as-is. |
