It's a member of a generation of vintage Fords synonymous with old-school hot rodding, and certainly had to have been considered one seriously inspired-looking vehicle when it was introduced, as it featured a whole host of custom-looking styling cues that were actually part of its original design nearly 80 years ago. This smooth-running 1940 Ford Deluxe Business Coupe brings that high impact curb appeal into the present day and comes armed with a street-ready modern drivetrain well-suited to the demands of frequent driving in everyday conditions. The flashy yellow shade this vintage coupe carries is a great fit for a car that's always been intended to turn heads. Ford had introduced the business coupe design some three years earlier, seeing to it that upscale Deluxe versions like this one were well differentiated from the rest of the line, as they added features like the extensive, almost art deco-looking front grille that extends out all the way to the fenders. The 1940 version was a good look for the Coupe, as its wider stance and hood gave it a more aggressive appearance than its predecessors. It cuts quite an impression, and those flaring fenders, relatively small windows, tapered hood and tear-shaped headlights all combine to make you think Ford's group was really going all out to make a statement - a statement that certainly landed as intended, as this dramatic design has been the foundation of street rods all over the world ever since the model was released. A fresh-looking gray tweed interior awaits inside. The two bucket seats show very little wear and are flanked by matching door panels to the sides and a headliner above that are in the same condition. Slide into the driver's seat and you'll see that the yellow dash just beyond the custom Ford steering wheel remains in good condition, as well, and features an array of white-faced AutoMeter gauges to monitor your motoring functions. You'll find it to be a comfortable interior, too, with its power seats and windows - a combination not often seen in vintage street machines like this one - and a tilt column that will allow you to adjust the steering wheel into the perfect position. There's certainly a lot of room in the trunk area, as anything you stow inside will be sharing the appreciable space only with a loudspeaker that's been mounted to the floor and controlled by a module fastened to the dash to turn this classic into a four-wheel PA system when you so choose. Just underneath the bold hood sits a Chevy 350V8 that's running great and combines with a 3-speed automatic TH350 transmission to make for a very street-friendly and powerful drivetrain. An aluminum radiator has been added up front, along with a pair of electric fans, to keep engine temperatures down, regardless of driving conditions. Take a look underneath, and you'll not only see an undercarriage that remains straight and solid, but also a Mustang II front end that provides this Coupe with disc brakes up front, as well as a smooth ride by virtue of its coilover suspension without the bumpsteer found in so many aftermarket mods. This universal inspiration to street rodders throughout the ages sits on a set of 15" Torq Thrust II wheels, outfitted with Sailun radials.
