Here is a great chance to own a true survivor from the seventies show scene! Originally built here in LA, it was then purchased by an Econoline collector up in the Pacific North West and remained in his private collection for over 20 years. I have owned it since early last year and have spent a lot of time (and money!) on getting it up and running and restoring the hydraulics because IT IS ACTUALLY A 5-WINDOW PICK-UP!!!!! The builder made his own shell based on a van which fits perfectly. The paint scheme and the upholstery blend it in to the point where most people assume it’s a van until the shell is raised and lowered from 2 switches on the dash. I made contact with the original builder and learned that it uses early Mustang power top pumps and rams so we replaced the rears and installed the fronts (which were missing) and now it all works just like it did back in the day. Look at the last picture in the series. He said that he used to raise and lower the shell while cruising down the street! Then he added the clam-shell side door and a wind-back sun roof. I haven’t tried to get the sun roof working yet and there is also one in the cab which I have not worked on. There are a lot of neat custom touches you can see in the photos like the door handles and rear lights. I also have the covers for the front lights to complete the fender to fender “floating grille”. You can see that most of the interior is in very good shape. You can also see that the vinyl covering on the shell needs a little help but overall the “van” is very presentable. Mechanically it scoots along with a 289 small block Ford and C4 transmission. It starts up and runs just fine, it recently started showing the ignition light so I think that the alternator has died but I have another one which will go with the van. I have not experienced any overheating but the furthest I have driven in one go is 8 miles on a 3 lane street and I just about needed all 3 lanes!!!! As a consequence of that test drive I had planned to replace the kingpins, steering rod-ends, bushings and other rubber items. Just remember that it had been parked on display for 20+ years so it will need some TLC before you can drive it regularly. Unfortunately I have been priced out of my workshop and will have nowhere to store and work on it so I have to let it go quickly and for a lot less than I have in it.
