Description of 1965 Ford Mustang |
This is a 1965 (early production commonly referred to as a 1964 1/2), D Code (289 4V - the most powerful motor you could order at the time), convertible in classic Rangoon Red. The car is a well cared for super low mileage pony (43,000 original miles), with a C4 automatic transmission. She is absolutely stunning. The exterior and undercarriage of the car underwent an extensive but older restoration including an undercarriage rust preventative coating and a high quality paint job. The restoration was completed in the 90's and does show some age, there are some paint swirls and paint chips but over all the car is still a show stopper. This car would show well at local shows and is a fantastic driver quality car. The interior is mostly (is not completely) original. The seats and carpet do show some minor wear but the condition is impressive for a 55 year old car (no need to do a thing to the interior if you don't want). The power top looks as good as new and works flawlessly. It's unknown what work has been completed on the drive train. The motor starts up easily even after sitting for months and runs strong down the highway, the transmission shifts smooth as well. The car is mostly rust free, the only rust I've found is some surface rust on the top of the trunk pan. The well wheels, firewall, and floorpans look perfect. Known issues: The factory power steering is a great option but the car does wander a bit, it's possible this could be dialed in but it's also possible this is just how a 55 year old car drives. The car as two minor+ fluid leaks. The brake system and the transmission leak small amounts and need to be topped off every few months. The car does pull to the passenger side when braking, this would likely be an easy fix for the mechanically inclined. The car was purchased new in 1964 in Michigan, it was sold six months later to gentlemen in Missouri who owned the car for the next 50 years. There is scrapbook included with car that has a few pictures of the restoration and some neat history of the car. I'm a life long Mustang fan (my first car was a 1966 Fastback) and saved for many years for my perfect driver convertible before buying this lovely lady in the winter of 2016. God has blessed me with a growing family and a new house is in our future so some of the toys have to go. The pony is located in LaSalle Colorado. |
