Description of 1966 Ford Mustang

This neat and clean 1966 Mustang 289 was once the featured car on the cover of The Running Board, a regional publication of the Antique Auto Club of America. Its been lovingly cared over the years since then and is offered for sale now. Take a look at this completely stock example of the original Pony car and see if it is the type of Mustang you have been looking for.
Presented in the factory original color of Wimbledon White with a black vinyl roof, the car is unmodified and in great shape. The bumpers are newer or re-chromed so shine like new. A horizontal bar grill with a solo Mustang in the middle looks simple and sweet. The 289 emblem on the fender is correct. It was built and originally delivered with that engine. Of-course there is the Mustang running on the red white and blue stripes also on the front fender, and bright rocker trim as well as a splash of flash on the leading edge of the rear fender well. The back of the car has another nice bumper and a couple chrome tailpipes peeking out from underneath it as well as those iconic triple taillights above it. The brightwork around the vinyl roof shines nicely and the vinyl itself looks new. Styled steel wheels are polished up real nicely and have Mustang center caps along with white wall tires that are almost a required on this car.
Open the door and you are in for a treat. Neat and clean are the words of the day for the interior too. The door panel is spotless. A 3-spoke wood grain steering wheel with the Mustang center sits in front of a black dash board with thin chrome piping trimming out the oval sections and dressing out the gauges. Of-course the speedo sits directly in front of the driver with engine gauges flanking it on each side. Other chrome control knobs along with the ignition switch line up below that. To the right are the Mustang radio which drives Jensen speakers installed in the back shelf, and ventilation controls. But the real treat is the factory air mounted under the dash which blows nice and cold. A floor mounted T-handle shifter for the automatic trans sits in the center console. So, settle into the bucket seat, grab the wheel, and imagine yourself driving it home.
Under the hood is that 289. It was built and delivered as a 289 car, but it isn't clear to us if it is the exact engine that was delivered with the car new. It has a Fomoco blue air cleaner with matching valve covers, and a 2-barrel Fomoco carburetor. The intake and the heads are stock as is the A/C compressor and original style washer fluid bag. Signs of proper maintenance include a newer alternator, plugs, wires, and cap. The hoses look new and are clamped by factory style hose clamps. Power flows back through the 3-speed automatic trans to the rear axle mounted on leaf springs. The underside of this car is almost as clean as the top and once again there are signs of proper maintenance with new bushings and nothing leaking. Drum brakes all around handle the stopping duties, and the car sits on 195/75R14 white wall tires all around.
A stock, unmodified, 1966 Mustang with factory air. Can't be too many this nice still out there. Come on down and check it out up close. If this is the one you have been looking for, then take it home with you.
