Still wearing its original color and carrying plenty of big block power, this 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 XL is a great looking early '60s cruiser and a sterling example of Ford's design wizardry during its era. The top ranking trim level among Galaxies, it offers plenty of open air excitement to go along with its vintage Ford charm. Long, broad and angular, this is just a flat out awesome looking car. As the '60s progressed, Ford continued to make some... subtle changes to its second generation design, with each subsequent model taking on a decidedly more aggressive and modern look. You can easily see just how effective those tweaks were. It's still decked out in the same black hue it left the factory with all those years ago, ornamented by long stretches of chrome trim running the considerable length of its sides. It's got a very agile look for a full-size car, an appearance created in part by the forward placement of its front wheels and the stylish shape of its rear fenders, which cover a good part of the rear tires to give this Ford a great low-slung looking stance. Well-aligned, with flush fitting doors, hood and deck lid, it's a very capable-looking classic that beckons you to climb behind the wheel and hit the road for open-air excitement. Should the weather not remain in your favor on your journey, its black canvas power convertible top raises into place to shelter you from the elements. Open the driver's side door and climb inside and you'll be greeted by a very fresh-looking red vinyl interior. Here, you'll find a great blend of original components, aided by a set of aftermarket gauges that blend seamlessly with their surroundings. The pair of low-backed buckets up front have plenty of life left in them, and they sit astride a great looking center console that provides some handy storage space with a well-placed shifter sitting toward its front end. There's more than enough legroom both fore and aft to keep your contingent of passengers happy. Beyond the steering wheel, the dash area features a broad stretch of chrome trim, and an instrument cluster that houses a set of gauges that still feature their original design and looking impressively readable behind clear lenses. You'll have no shortage of luggage space - the trunk area in back is amply sized and looks very clean, with its floor covered by a fresh expanse of fabric and a full-size spare sitting toward the front with plenty of tread left. There's been a big block residing in the engine bay ever since this Ford left the factory, but the 427-cubic inch V8 that sits there now takes things up a notch or two over its predecessor as far as power is concerned. Crowned by a pair of Rochester 4-barrel carbs that keep it well-fed, this is a strong motor to be sure, and it fires right up and runs with a great aftermarket lope that's prominent enough to convey its power, but not so drastic as to be jarring. A four-speed manual transmission sits in place of the original automatic to provide a more involving driving experience. Power steering and power front disc brakes combine with a rebuilt front suspension to make for a very street-ready ride. This Ford classic sits on a set of 15" American Racing wheels that are carrying BF Goodrich TA radials. This 1963 Ford Galaxie XL offers a very compelling combination of curb appeal, power and open air driving excitement. Call today!
