Description of 1964 Ford Thunderbird Landau |
This is a beautiful 1964 T-Bird Landau. It is not a show quality car but its a very nice and clean daily driver to hop in and enjoy.. It runs strong and every feature I could think of to test is working! Everything down to the in-dash clock! This is my personal classic with the title in my name. I've had the car for about 10 months now. Most of the restoration was done by the previous owner. He spent a few years restoring the car to its current driver quality restoration. He said that the engine and transmission are its original 390 V8 and automatic transmission (completely rebuilt prior to him purchasing the car). It has a new 4 barrel carb, distributor, master break cylinder, and power steering pump. The paint is presentable but obviously an amateur job. It looks good from 10 feet but up close you will find the imperfections that are typical of a "hobbyist" paint job vs. a professional. Since I bought the car, I have never had any issues starting or driving the car. I added/replaced some brake hardware that came with the car when I bought it that was "still do to". I also re-upholstered the front seats since there were tears in the seats. I also added the woodgrain vinyl back to the instrumentpanel, center console, and doors. There is more of the woodgrain vinyl rolled up in the trunk along with several other parts and books that have been passed along with the car. The side skirts are also in the trunk and come with the car.The only other things I had to do was finish connecting some of the vacuum operated items such as the rear package tray vent and the door locks. I noticed the radio takes a little bit to start working. I noticed that at first, the radio powers up, but its silent... but after Ive been driving the car around for 10 minutes or so.... it starts receiving radio signal and plays through the speakers loud and clear.... Im not sure if its old "tube technology" that has to warm up before it works or what. The brakes will sometimes "squeak" at the front if its been sitting a little while. It stops just fine... It may be the new brake pads needing broken in or maybe some adjustments needed... but I noticed if I give it one good abrupt stop (hard brake going 30 or so)... then the sound goes away the rest of the time I'm driving it. The brakes themselves seem to work fine and you can lock up the tires if you press hard enough. The car drives smooth down the road. These old cars are like driving a big ol boat around... and it has its share of rattles, creaks, and wind noise just like most.... but its just so dang cool to drive and it turns heads everywhere it goes. Speaking of "cool", this car does NOT have an A/C. It never did according to its data plate. I looked into it and you can get a complete A/C system for it from "Classic Auto Air" for $1500. So this one is best enjoyed on a cooler evening with the windows down. Please watch the 3 videos I created to experience the next best thing to being here and checking out the car in person. This is a great example of a classic that is ready to enjoy with all of its features working. Enjoy as is... or give it a new paint job and take it to the next level. I believe the data plate indicates that it was originally white. Feel free to call or text me with any questions or specific picture or video clip requests. My cell is 806-438-0763.
