Description of 1968 Ford Mustang

CLASSIC 1968 FORD MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE - ONE OWNER SINCE 1988!

ICONIC 1968 MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE -OVER 100 IMAGES

GENERAL BACKGROUND... when Ford introduced the Mustang in 1964, it launched an iconic nameplate that would resonate over 50 years later as the world's most popular sports car. It set a first-year sales record that has never been exceeded since. A big part of this success has been the "rightness" for the times that each re-styling of the car has demonstrated. To keep the momentum going, the 1967 face-lift of the car once again captured the public's imagination.

This 1968 Convertible was arguably the most exciting body style for Mustang in that year. The top stylishly mimics the lines of the hardtop when raised, making it as fashionable on cool summer nights as the coldest days of winter.

8T03C113388 VIN DECODING... 8 (1968 Model Year) T (Metuchen, NJ Assembly Plant) 03 (Convertible) C (289 V8) 113388 (Production Sequence Number)

FORD BODY PLATE DECODING... 76A (Convertible) W (Meadowlark Yellow exterior) 2A (Black Vinyl interior) 161 (September 16, 1967 production date) 22 (Charlotte District Sales Office) 2 (2.79 Axle ratio) W (c-4 Automatic transmission).

A "DRIVER CLASS" SURVIVORRATHER THAN A FULLY-RESTORED CAR…it is important for the new owner not to expect a car that has been completely disassembled and “made new” on a cost-no-object basis. Nor is it a "fully restored car". Rather, it is a "driver class" car that is enjoyed only on an occasional basis. It is fun to drive to the grocery store and local errands, but has not been tested or prepared for long trips. For this reason, trailered transport of the car to its new owner is recommend.

OPERATIONAL REPORT... the car drives nicely and seems well-suited to local trips. As is often the case with un-restored classics of this era, some suspension components are a bit worn with a bit of looseness. The power steering and automatic transmission make the car easy to maneuver. The manual brakes require a bit more force than today's power brakes, but stop the car surely. The power top easily raised and lowered the top. The VIN decoding confirms that the car was built with a 289-V8, but because Ford did not stamp a VIN matching number to their engine blocks in 1968, it is not possible for us to confirm whether the engine is original to the car or not.

As the car is not fully restored, the new owner should expect there to be items needing repair/maintenance if as-new operation or condition is the goal. Here are some items that we noticed (and there could be more that we did not note, or that may soon develop) that are not operational: passenger's side headlamp is out, only the center segments of the three bar tail-lamps illuminate, the emergency hand-brake handle is cracked (see image), seat-backs do not release for easier rear seat entry, horn is inoperative, radio unit is inoperative, heater fan is noisy and will need lubrication or replacement, rear passenger-side fender has a scrape/indentation (shown - see images).

CARBURETOR NOTE/TRANSPORT HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: As we parked the car after the photo-session, we noted gas leaking from the carburetor. The car was taken to a local reputable shop, and they were able to stop the leak by tightening a few screws for a tighter gasket seal. However, we cannot be sure that this is a permanent fix. Therefore - along with the fact that the car is no longer driven often or tested for long distances - the car should be transported rather than driven to the buyer's location.

VIN TAGS: You will note in the images, that there is a Ford VIN tag on the passenger's door, and also a State of Washington "Assigned Identification Number" tag. Both identify the same number: 8T03C113388 and agree with the Georgia-issued title.

TITLE: The title was originally issued in 1988 and had been misplaced. To sell the car, a replacement "Certificate of Title" was issued on 7-23-2018 and will be provided to the new owner.

LOCATION: Smyrna, GA (approx. 20 miles from Atlanta)

EXCELLENT INVESTMENT –cars of the 1960s are highly coveted. The Mustang makes every "top 10" list I have ever seen of classic American cars. It is - and will likely always be - a "blue chip" investment among classic car lovers. Best of all, NO car is as easy to fully restore as a Mustang! Almost everything you may want to make "as new" is available, and at relatively affordable cast compared to almost any other classic make/model.

ODOMETER NOTE...07641 miles are indicated on the odometer. Due to the 5-digit design limitations of odometers of this era, it is impossible to know the car's actual mileage with certainty. However, since the title indicates a 7/15/1988 purchase date with 65,000 miles - it is likely that the actual mileage is 107,641.

ABOUT ME:I am an avid Classic Car enthusiast. After retiring from 30 years of Sales & Marketing in a Global 100 company, I began buying and selling Classic Cars and Collectibles as a collector, and also market collectible/investment vehicles for friends, fellow enthusiasts, and other clientele. This classic 1953 Studebaker is owned by a fellow classic car enthusiast.
Please Note: as of this date, we have had over 2,900 eBay transactions with 100% Positive Feedback...this includes the sale of many Classic Cars to Buyers all over the world, including Great Britain, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, France, Australia, Russia, Canada, Japan and throughout the United States.

IMPORTANT DOCUMENT & FINAL REMARKS:A Bill of Sale, Georgia Registration document, and Title will be provided to the buyer.

This Vehicle is sold strictly as-shown and on a final as-is basis without any warranties expressed or implied due to age. Even the very best restored classics will require additional maintenance and service - often without warning. Therefore, please expect to continue - as the new owner and caretaker of this classic - to perform additional maintenance and repairs. We hope that you are able to enjoy the car without the need for an immediate repair - but understand that this indeed could be found necessary. As seasoned collectors know, every time you start (or attempt to start) a classic car is a new experience...it could be a wonderful ride, or a new repair to undertake. That is the nature of the hobby, and this car (or any classic car) should not be purchased if you are not prepared for this reality. We have presented the car accurately to the best of our ability, but oversights are possible. Therefore -beforethe auction's end - bidders are welcome to examine the vehicle in person. All sales are final.

Finally, we remind you to be sure to review ALL the images and ALL the captions for this classic, at the leftbecause - in addition to this description - they relate important information too!
