Description of 1989 Ford Mustang GT |
Car sat for over 10 years uncovered, outdoors, without a motor and the hood off. Most of the weather stripping type components show wear and need replacement. Installed motor, got it running and have been driving it for about 6 months working through the list of replaced parts below. Video of interior, motor, walk around, and drive by:https://youtu.be/nFOqilXIpZs Motor: came from private seller, reportedly out of a Lincoln MKVII HO with 60,000 miles. Been sitting some time. Refreshed with components below. Harness is a little different than standard Mustang ones, some alterations have been made to make it work. Mostly, everything fit with the exact same plugs. This type of motor comes with an upgraded style starter that most 5.0 mustangs are upgraded to. I think the passenger valve cover is leaking oil slowly. Every few days of driving I notice a drip under car, looks like that's the culprit. No check engine light. Transmission: original 5 speed. Shifting into 5th sometimes gets a grinding noise, it could just be clutch cable adjustment because it does not occur each time you shift into 5th. Other than that, feels strong. All new parts listed below, over $4,000 spent so far. I'm sure there are more parts, these are the receipts for the last few months. Replaced on the motor so far: OE injectors Spark plugs New distributor Cap, Rotor Ford Performance plug wires Brake Master SVE Blue silicone hoses Motor mounts Power steering pump Power steering bracket (AC delete and relocation kit) SVE 130 AMP alternator with heavy wiring kit Fuel tank and fuel tank kit (sending unit, seals, etc) Fuel Filter Fuel Rail adapters for soft fuel lines (old lines were clogged, see video for new placement) Fuel Pump Walbro 255lph Windshield washer reservoir Bellhousing Clutch kit (SR Performance Stage 1) Ford Racing flywheel Ford Performance clutch cable and clutch fork Radiator Water outlet Thermostat Radiator catch can Water pump O2 Sensors (used ones) Canister purge valve Other new parts: Door lock actuators Outer door handles (one is installed crooked, see video) Ignition switch Newer tires (about 1,000 miles) Bravuris 245/40/R17 From the original car: As far as I can tell, it's lowered considerably. Under the car it has BBK subframe connectors, BBK lower control arms. The car handles well, cannot confirm what else is not stock, but the stance looks modified. 17" cobra style wheels. 245 rear tread Hooker headers, off road h-pipe, and dual flowmaster exhaust out the back were on the original car, and have stayed. See video for exhaust sound. It's mean, and pops when you downshift. Car had an MSD ignition box mounted in the front fender area, still hooked up. It has a bypass you can disconnect it easily. GT40 cobra style intake was from the original car. Reportedly has 373 positraction per the original owner. Interior: New double din carplay / android auto stereo. Speakers are old. Mirror hole cover is missing on drivers side, and passenger door handle is cracked. See video and photos for overall interior. Mostly its clean. Rear seats look unused. Front seats both have powered lumbar, drivers seat is powered slide. Motor is tired but it still works if you are not sitting in it. Triple autometer gauge pod. Water temp works, AFR works, Fuel pressure works intermittently. The sender was gone from the original motor, I replaced with a cheap sender in the soft lines. All gauges are on with the headlights only. Steering wheel came with the car. Missing one screw, horn works but is not hooked up to the new wheel. Tilt steering works. Exterior: See photos, Lower skirts need paint, some rust on hood and rear deck lid. Trim and gaskets are poor condition. Rear deck is hard to close, sometimes takes a few tries. This car was clean before it was parked outside, ready to be painted and restored to it's original glory. As-is, no warranty. I've tried to include everything possible in the listing, please see the video for a walk around. Fun to drive, loud, quick, gets lots of looks and comments about how it sounds. PLEASE NOTE: This car WILL NOT pass California emissions with it's current exhaust set up. If changed it probably could, however it's California law that the seller makes changes. I don't have time. For that reason, it is NOT for sale to California buyers. This will go out of state only. Please contact with any questions. I apologize for the inconvenience. https://youtu.be/nFOqilXIpZs |
