Description of 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 XL G - Code 406 cid 405hp Tri Power 4 Spd Orig |
1963 Ford Galaxie 500XL G-Code 406/405HP 4-Speed Relisting, G - Code 1963 Ford Galaxie 500XL 406 cid 405 hp ( winning bidder at $27,500 cancelled bid, family emergency). Original G - Code (406 cid) Galaxie 500XL, "Box Top" with 71,200 mile, as it left the factory, not shiny or dolled up with pretty colors, it show its age and the normal wear and tear (and loving care) of decades of enjoyment. It's NOT a bunch of parts put together and painted, Black / Black, Tri Power 406 cid and 405 hp, with a factory 4 speed, bucket seats, 9 inch rear mated to factory 4.11 gears makes this a badass car, in the sense of, fearless, authentic, with welded in traction bars and a Sun tach, it was set up a long time ago to make money racing in the streets. Original motor rebuilt by Joe Lapine (verified) @ Comp. Engines in Danbury, one of the best Ford FE engine builders in America. When pushed hard it feels like it launched from a catapult. 406 and 427's are very strong motors and Joe Lapine makes them bulletproof. ENGINE You can see and hear a short video of the motor running in youtube. Do a search on, "406 Ford Galaxie 500XL Raven Black with Factory 4:11 Rear, and yes, it does sound that good. Previous owner (Michael) had Joe Lapine @ Danbury Competition Engines, (15 Taylor St. Danbury, CT). rebuilt the motor about 10 years ago, then put the car in storage, sadly he passed away soon after. Michael was a Ford guy and must have been a real badass also. Car sat in paid storage for years, before it was pulled out and parked outside for several more years. Original G-code motor from factory with car casting numbers verified with photos, 406 cid, with 11.4:1. Compression, solid lifter with matching three Holley two-barrel carburetors, correct cast iron manifolds has approx. 500 miles since the rebuild. Engine bay in original condition, has not been detailed. BODYWORK/TRIM Ford enamel Raven black paint that's shown from various angles in the photos above, imperfections commensurate with age are present on much of the paint finish, and newer paintwork was believed to have been applied along the hood later on. No signs of body damage, Original Ford sheet metal and trim in good condition with proper alignment, the floor pans and trunk floors are solid, the lower quarters behind the rear wheels when tested with a magnets show small amounts of filler were applied at some point. INTERIOR Original interior remain unrestored and is finished in black crushed vinyl, and features XL-specific front bucket seats, a full-length command console, factory Hurst shifter, and vintage Sun tachometer mounted to the steering column. Detailed photos included above capture the condition of the interior, door panels, chrome trim, and seat upholstery, which displays some noted wear. Dash / gauges are fully operational, working vintage AM radio, (non working electric clock), chrome-trimmed steering wheel, and stainless-trimmed foot pedals. Behind the cockpit, finished trunk with mat, original full-size spare tire, correct jack assembly. (Please Note ... Vintage Sun tachometers require special mercury 1.3 volt batteries to function, no longer available) DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Solid floors and boxed frame with surface rust and the remains of factory black paint, no undercoating. Original and correct synchronized Borg-Warner T-10. Ford's 9-inch axle (factory 4.11:1 gears), larger 3-inch diameter driveshaft. Manual steering with light feedback, dual exhaust system and old school Thrush glasspacks. Additional work includes a new clutch and rebuilt shifter, and modifications are limited to an aftermarket tachometer, traction bars, and glasspack mufflers. WHEELS /BRAKES Original 406 oversized brake shoes installed with corresponding 11.03 x 3.00-inch cast-iron drums. Single master cylinder replaced with a dual system for safety (original included). Ford original 15 x 5.5-inch reinforced stamped-steel wheels, Ford dog dish wheel covers, new set of Coker tires. GENERAL INFO.
