Description of 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible GT350C Recreation |
This auction is for the 3 Mustang convertibles pictured here as a package deal. The reason they are being auctioned off together as a package is because they share a unique Mustang history that few Mustang enthusiast know about. They were all built by Mustangs Plus and The Restomod Shop for Wilhelm Motor Works (www.wilhelmmotorworks.com ) as G.T.350C Mustang convertibles. The "C" was to stand for "Continuationâ€, as Shelby has used on other Shelby licensed vehicles. We are offering them together to present the opportunity for a Mustang collector to be able to purchase them all at the same time and keep the collection together. Here is the unique history. Jon Wilhelm came to Mustangs Plus in 2004 with an idea to make Shelby cars. Mustangs Plus was engaged in providing many of the parts needed to build the G.T.500E Mustangs which were being built by Unique Performance. Jon had been involved in that project but was not at the time. We told Jon if Wilhelm Motor Works had a contract with Shelby to build cars, we would work with Wilhelm Motor Works to build them. In June of 2005, Jon came back to Mustangs Plus with a contract in hand to build a Prototype G.T.350C convertible based on the 4 and the 12 1966 Shelby G.T.350 convertibles that had been built in 1966 and the early 1980's. Mustangs Plus bought 3 1966 convertibles, the 3 convertibles offered here, and The Restomod Shop built them into the G.T.350C Mustangs you see here. However, a lawsuit between Shelby and Wilhelm Motor Works erupted before the Prototype could be approved by Shelby. As a result of the lawsuit, Mustangs Plus ended up with all 3 cars. Since 2005, the cars have been at Mustangs Plus in one of the showrooms or in storage. All of the cars have been driven less than 100 miles since. This is the first time they have been offered for sale. The Prototype is equipped with a Ford Racing 330 HP crate engine. Since it would be used as a promotional vehicle that many people would drive, it is equipped with an automatic transmission. All of the suspension, brakes and running gear was installed either new or rebuilt. The interior was stripped out and all new interior was installed. The top was replaced with a black cloth top, not the standard production style vinyl convertible top. Since time was an issue, the paint that was on the car when it was purchased was touched up and a new hood was painted, the Le Mans stripes were added and it was installed. This car is titled and registered in California to Mustangs Plus. The #1 G.T.350C was built to either be auctioned off at the 2006 Barrett-Jackson Collector Auction to help launch the G.T.350C continuation line or as a gift to Carroll Shelby for his personal collection. Because of the lawsuit, this decision was never made. It is equipped with a Ford Racing 392W crate engine, a Tremec HD 3550 5-speed transmission and a 9" rear end. The air conditioning was never charged as the car is not driven. As with the Prototype, all of the suspension, brakes and running gear was installed either new or rebuilt with premium products. The interior was stripped out and all new was installed. The top was replaced with a black cloth top, not the standard production style vinyl convertible top. The #4 G.T.350C was built as a base model with the original 289 engine and 4 speed transmission intact. There was no #2 or #3 G.T.350C. These numbers were being held for customers. #4 is painted in Wimbledon White with the Guardsman Blue stripe. #4 is also equipped with the stock front valance instead of the fiberglass front valance with the radiator cooling hole. A very classic G.T.350 look for a convertible instead of the original fastback body style. Please note, these Mustang convertibles are not being presented as Shelby vehicles. They are being presented as 3 Mustang convertibles that were built because of the association of Wilhelm Motor Works and Shelby back in 2005. They are not Shelby vehicles because of the 2006 lawsuit that followed. Close, but no cigar. Included in the sale of these 3 Mustang convertibles is the paperwork recording the event of the lawsuit. This includes a copy of the original contract between Carroll Shelby Licensing, Inc. and Wilhelm Motor Works. Also included are many e-mails with VIN numbers of the cars between Mustangs Plus and Jon Wilhelm, correspondence between Shelby and Wilhelm Motor Works, the Mustangs Plus deposition concerning the lawsuit and more.
