Description of 1963 Ford Thunderbird Landau

Third generation T-Birds combines the beautiful chromed fins of the '50s with the smoother, cleaner lines of the '60s into what many consider the best-looking Thunderbird ever. This one is almost completely factory original and will really take you back there when you drive it. Check it out. From the side, this car looks like a bullet or a rocket. The nose tapers down from the hood and up from the bottom to form the tip, and... the upper edge of the fenders and door trimmed in chrome makes it look like its flying through the air. From the front, a big chrome bumper wraps up around the edges of quad headlights with a toothy grill in between them. An iconic Thunderbird flies just over the grill and a hood scoop follows closely behind it. At the back of the car, the fins end in two big round taillights that look like afterburners with another Thunderbird badge between them and a simple bumper underlining everything. The vinyl landau hardtop is original and showing its age a bit while the Silver Mink Metallic paint has probably been recoated at some point in its life, which is likely why it looks so good. Open the door and you will find a stylish interior that wraps around the driver and passenger in a way that is unique and perfect for this "personal luxury car". It is all original and in really good shape but is showing its age in a couple places, mostly on the door panels but it shows the car has been cared for all these years. The steering wheel is a work of art in wood and chrome with a Thunderbird center button. Wood wraps around the interior from the doors, across the dash, and down over the center console. Three round gauges trimmed in chrome are set into that wood with the speedometer in the center. Control knobs run across the bottom and the ventilation controls, including those for the factory A/C are in the center. Power window switches are set into the wood on the center console and a nice storage compartment with a padded lid makes a comfortable armrest. The seats are comfortable too and are trimmed in two tone vinyl with pleated center sections with smooth side bolsters. Under the hood you will find a 390 cubic inch engine that is believed to be the original motor sitting down in an all original engine bay. It is a Z code motor so would be the 300-horsepower version, and it is completely stock, including the carb and intake. It runs smooth and sounds great. The air filter has a chrome topper and there are chrome valve covers as well. Alternators appeared on T-Birds for the first time in 1963 and the power flows back through a 3-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels mounted on leaf springs. Coil springs and a sway bar up front offer a good ride with nice handling and power brakes provide good stopping power. The rubber meets the road through 215/75R14 white wall tires mounted on steel wheels with full center spin hub caps. Unique styling with smooth lines, chrome edged fins and a smooth running 390 cubic inch powerhouse. This is a personal luxury car '60 style. Come on down and check it out.
