The introduction of its model back in the day heralded a new automotive niche - the "personal car" - and it would go on to become synonymous with pure style. This 1956 Ford Thunderbird is a true rolling icon, an evocative classic that will bring up images of a simpler time, when car aficionados met at the local drive-in to show off their rides and rock and roll was in its infancy. It's carrying factory correct power under its hood... and has recently received plenty of maintenance to bring it to a solid running condition. First generation T-Birds like this one are arguably among the most instantly recognizable of all classics. Stylishly tasteful and compact but by no means cramped, this is a car that's captured the admiration of onlookers for decades. Decked out in its original Colonial White shade with its coveted Continental rear bumper displaying the spare tire in its decorative cover - a look that debuted the very year this car rolled out - this '56 is one seriously sharp ride and offers an awful lot to like. Its solid running condition means you can hit the road just as soon as you get it home, the two-seater design is both magnetic and rare - the configuration was only offered for three years on the model before being put on a decades long hiatus - and it's well aligned, with a hood, doors and trunk that open and shut smoothly. When the skies darken, there's a Wimbledon white accessory top included to provide shelter from the elements. The two tone, black and white interior also sports its original color combination and remains in thoroughly stock condition, with the exception of the AM/FM/Cassette at the center of the dash. There are plenty of attention getting details inside. The door panels to each side of the bench seat mirror its color pattern, and their textured accents merge with the trim on the dash and surround you with chrome on three sides. Below, the carpeting seems to have been recently installed and features a pair of Thunderbird- logoed floor mats to complete its look. The dash pad also appears very fresh as it sits above the collection of factory components in the instrument cluster, all of which are easily readable. The updated electric wiper conversion is a nice plus, as it makes for much safer driving in the rain. You'll have no delays enjoying great times out on the road. The period-correct 292 cubic inch V8 beneath the hood is equipped with a Holley 4-barrel carb and starts up with no hesitation as it pairs with a three speed manual transmission that was rebuilt not long ago and is navigated by a clutch that has a really nice, solid feel. The engine was recently serviced, at which time a Pertronix electronic ignition was installed to maximize available spark, and a whole host of other parts were replaced for added reliability, including the control arm bushings, fuel pump and the entire brake system. The alignment on this classic also seems to be very much on point, so it rides straight and smooth and stops without pulling to either side as it cruises on its set of 15" spoked wheels that add to its thoroughly vintage look and also carry Hankook tires. If you're looking to get behind the wheel of a truly iconic classic in strong running condition, this 1956 Ford Thunderbird is a must-see. Call today!
