Description of 1959 Ford Galaxie Skyliner Retractable

This 1959 Ford Galaxie Skyliner has the distinction as America's first mass-produced electronic hardtop convertible. But besides just a rare technical marvel, this is a full size-Ford with a big V8 and an A/C interior, so it's potential for fun is larger than even its tailfins. The '59 Ford had a style all its own. The front end was revised to give it an even more powerful square-jaw presence then the previous year. Plus, the full-width grille has... so many stars, it feels like a play on this car's Galaxie name. The brightwork on a car like this can be described in acreage, and so it's always valuable to see it complete like this one. With the big chrome bumpers, rocker trim that flows into the rear fenders, and artful style running front headlight to door handle â€" and so much more â€" this is a very striking package. The factory-correct Colonial White has a smooth look and a hard shine, so it provides the ideal canvas for this whole package. Of course, the retractable hard top roof is the real reason why this is such a valued classic. It was the engineering sensation of its time, as multiple motors make it look like the trunk is swallowing the roof whole. There's nothing cooler at a car show then when one of these is stopped halfway up so we can all be in awe of this American marvel. Once the roof is down, it reveals a terrific and artful interior. The factory-correct Radiant Green has insets of exterior-matching white and comfortable green cloth. The interior is a true '50s design, so there's an intricate pattern on the door panels, plenty of original stylized brightwork running across the dash, and a two-tone steering wheel. This is a premium convertible, so you have some great period-correct premium features, like the AM radio and power seat. Plus, the air conditioning is blowing cold so you really get to stay comfortable while enjoying top-down motoring. Just like today's hardtop convertibles, having the roof down doesn't mean losing your entire trunk. There's a neat Ford logo container back there to show you exactly what can be stowed safely. Under the hood is what all Ford people love to see in their '59s. This car is specified to have an H-code, 352 cubic-inch V8 â€" the top-of-the-line for the Galaxie. And so it's great to see a correct-looking motor with all that bold blue radiating from within the engine bay. It's even topped with a proper Holley four-barrel carburetor, and keen eyes will spot the Offenhauser intake upgrade. This engine has the kind of displacement that gives off a muscular V8 rumble from the glasspack-style dual exhaust system. But this is not the car you buy to do burnouts. With a three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, and upgraded front disc brakes, this Skyliner is your easy all-day cruiser. The sale comes with a reproduction owner's manual, Ford shop manual, and even a calendar that featured this car. Ford only offered this retractable option from 1957 to 1959, and the final year cars like this one were the rarest. So, don't miss your chance to pick up the ultimate 1950s collectible. Call today!!!
