1966 Ford Mustang Coupe When introduced at the 1964 World's Fair, the Ford Mustang began the era of the "pony car". Named not for its title "Mustang" but for ushering in a class of American Muscle cars, that were affordable sporty coupes with long hoods, and short rear decks. Wildly popular, the Mustang design flew off the showroom floors. Even today current models make use of the running horse emblem, that has stayed with the car for 55 years. For consignment a nice Mustang with a Sprint 200 package, an Athena Blue respray, engine trim, wire hubcaps, and Cruise-O-Matic transmission. We have seen several Mustangs come through our doors, but never a Sprint 200 version! Exterior With any exterior rust, and dings taken care of it now sports Athena Blue (a General Motors color) and it is very nicely done. All weatherstripping is new, panels are straight steel, gaps are well minded, and chrome is excellent. Badging is new Scott Drake, as are door handles. The black vinyl top is nearly showroom, as are wire wheel covers that come with the Sprint 200 package. Interior A swing of the doors and we are greeted with tight black door panels covered in vinyl. Cranks are like new, as are door handles and window trimmings. Looking inside are the original buckets in front and a bench in the rear. These have interior panels with a tuck and roll vinyl woven pattern and are surrounded by smooth vinyl bolsters. All in very nice condition. Sweeping up the center is another Sport 200 option in the form of a center console! This offers lighting to the rear passengers then glides forward housing the automatic shifter and some storage. One almost needs to look twice as we are not accustomed to seeing a console in a Mustang. Normally it's the lone shifter sitting in the middle of the hump. A very finished look if you will indeed. Instruments are all functioning as well as all knobs and pulls for numerous controls. An original steering wheel is fronting the dash and appears in good condition. An aftermarket radio has been nicely mounted into the dash, and has AM/FM and cassette capabilities. Carpeting appears fresh, and has no stains, fading, or areas of wear. Headliner is nice and tight and dressed in full square pattern vinyl. A shout to the trunk which has original looking nice plaid vinyl lining all around it. Drivetrain A 200ci inline 6-cylinder engine in Ford blue is in a restored engine bay. This engine along with the C4 3-speed automatic have been completely rebuilt. It is topped by a shiny air cleaner filtering air into a 1-barrel carburetor. Conventional rear with 2.83 gearing is observed, and a header has been added to the I-6. Undercarriage Let's give a standing ovation to the undercarriage, for its structural integrity, strong frame, clean suspension, and a good repair to the passenger floorpan. Rebuilt power steering and brakes. Also noted, smooth independent coil springs in front and leaf spring suspension on the rear. An H pipe exhaust brings the spent gases to the dual rear tailpipes. Drive-Ability As expected with a nifty restoration as this car has undergone, it is a quick starter, smooth driver, and I just cannot get enough of the center console. Definitely worth the price of admission, although Classic Auto Mall is free of charge. This car has nice tight steering and good brakes. I did not want to put it away. Overall, we present to you a very nice Sport 200 packaged '66 "Stang" that is well done, well taken care of, and well, a nice car!
