Description of 1936 Ford Slantback

1936 Ford Slantback

The Ford Motor Company produced only two models for 1936: the 48 and 68 Series. Both cars were carryovers from 1935 with the same basic body styling, but with modest upgrades. Both models featured numerous body styles and sold well despite Ford falling behind Chevrolet in overall sales. The Fords came in Standard and Deluxe trim levels.

For consignment...an all steel Slant Back version on the 1936 Ford. This car has been modified with a lowered ride, has a 350ci V8, a 3-speed with overdrive automatic transmission, and an interesting matte black paint with red accents. A street rod with a twist.

Exterior
This all steel car has been stripped down, sanded and resprayed in matte black paint. The vertical rods on the front grille, and the louvers on the hood cowl have a deep red contrasting paint. Surrounding chrome trim has been retained and it can be seen on the grille surround, hood ornament and cowling louver horizontal strips. The front bumper is original to the car and has a nice chrome finish with a neat dip in the center highlighting the red grille. Bulbous fenders flank the hood and make their way rearward in the form of a running board at the end of which forms the rear fender. The back of these fenders follow the line of the slant back and have dual taillights on the end of long tubes which are attached to the rear fenders just above the bumpers. Another curve in the middle of the bumper in nice condition frames the trunk, and has dual chrome tipped 3-inch exhaust pipes peering out from under it. Red steel spoked wheels with a trim ring on the outside and a round hub, both in chrome, and wrapped in wide whites add a nice grounding to the car. Red and white pinstriped flourishes can be seen as well on the exterior.

Interior
Stunning red leather seats in power bucket form, from a Jeep Cherokee, look like new and are fronted by a shining red dash. Within this is are Custom Instruments gauges with a gray background and a peppering of red accenting on them. Nice chrome bezels surround all these gauges. More white pinstripe flourishes are painted on the dash, which is fronted by a very nice banjo style steering wheel. A rear seat stretches across the back and looks like an upholstered art deco style couch with armrests. All covered in beautiful red leather. The headliner is also a beautiful and tight red and houses an AM/FM/CD player which is built into the ceiling. Pristine black carpet floods all the floors.

Drivetrain
A flip of one of the cowls on the hood and we are met with a 350ci crate engine, that is topped with Edelbrock Performer RPM heads, an Isky cam, an Offenhauser intake manifold and valve covers show proudly on top. Plenty of accenting chrome has been applied, including on top of the triple 2-barrel carburetors courtesy of GM. On the back is a 4-speed 700R4 automatic transmission. A Ford 7.5-inch rear courtesy of a Ranger Pickup puts the power to the ground.

Undercarriage
All straight non rusted metal underneath in the form of a black frame, a red painted rear axle with a chromed cover on the pumpkin. A Mustang II front end nicely blasted and finished, and a leaf spring rear suspension also blasted and cleaned is just in beautiful condition. A Flowmaster exhaust system which looks like new, snakes its way rearward from the headers on the engine. A shout out to the bottom end of the engine, which is all chromed and looking snazzy. Power drum brakes are up front, and drums on the back.

Drive-Ability
Upon entering you are bowled over by the red leather, and it is as comfortable as it is red! This car started right up and ran nicely. It has a good smooth ride, and plenty of power. On our ride we turned several heads.

A very tastefully performed restoration which took place 5 years ago. Straight steel exterior with red accents and pin striping. Red interior in leather, and a beautifully put together undercarriage, this car is a turn the key and have fun with this Slant Back from 1936, and plenty of upgrades courtesy several different makes and models. An amalgamation of parts which all come together to perform a nice automotive symphony.
