This 1948 FORD F-2 is, without a doubt, the nicest example on the planet. It is being offered EXCLUSIVELY on eBay in a 7-day NO RESERVE format to allow the marketplace to dictate the price. It is NOT offered for sale anywhere else at any asking price. Bid to win. Over 4 years and $100,000 was spent to have the entire truck refurbished and made to be “better than new†in every aspect, and the accompanying documentation and build photos will attest to the extraordinary level of restoration the truck subjected to. It was purchased directly from Senior Chief James “Patches†Watson before his death. Chief Watson is the Curator Emeritus of the UTD-SEAL Museum in Ft Pierce, FL. An original plank owner of SEAL Team Two, he served three tours in Vietnam as platoon chief earning sixteen combat decorations, four of which are Bronze Stars all with the Combat “Vâ€. Many know him as “Patchesâ€, the point man in Dick Marcinko’s Rouge Warrior book series. Photos of the truck with Chief Watson and the new owners are included from the day it was purchased. It comes with 4 DVD/CD’s that document the build process from start to finish, and the truck has had no miles placed on it by the former owner who commissioned the build. It has delivery mileage ONLY, and has NOT been driven further than about 150 yards up the road to our photography spot. For all intent and purpose, this truck should be considered BRAND NEW, as not ONE SINGLE COMPONENT OR PART was not replaced or refurbished. The F-2 is the ¾ ton example of what the automotive press called “The million-dollar cab†design launched by Ford in 1948. Ford spent over a million dollars to redesign the entire truck, moving to a specific truck chassis, and creating a wider, longer, and more “user-friendly†cab than the prior versions. This truck is powered by the original 226ci Flathead 6-cylinder engine that it was born with, and it has been extensively rebuilt to be “like-new†in every regard. It starts with ease, and the interior starter button brings it to life with just a push of the gas pedal. Idle is clean and strong, and the motor has that perfect putt-putt sound that only a real Flathead can provide. Block was stripped bare, and every part, piece, and component that went back in it, or on it, was either NOS or a perfectly restored original, save for a handful of components that had to be sourced in the modern world. Same goes for the original 4-speed manual transmission, which was stripped to the case prior to a complete refresh inside and out. Rear end is the original unit, and was completely stripped down to the case before being rebuilt with all new or fully refurbished parts. The entire brake system was completely and totally redone, with all new, or fully refurbished components. It stops the truck better than Henry Ford every imagined, and has zero issues. The entire frame was completely stripped bare and refurbished to like new, and then all of the suspension components and associated chassis items were either fully restored or replaced with new items prior to reassembly. The entire electrical system down to the last nut, screw, wire, and fuse was completely and totally redone. The electrical system performs flawlessly, and all of the accessories function as they should. All of the glass on the truck was replaced with custom hand cut pieces that are a perfect fit to the truck, and all of the associated seals, gaskets, regulators, and mechanics are all new or fully refurbished. All exterior lights are brand new or NOS units and perform like new. All of the chrome, and any stainless steel or bright work on the truck, is fully restored and refurbished original components which now show like brand new. Bed wood, strapping, and installation hardware are all brand new, and the bed wood has been treated to a hand applied clear sealant to protect it. The interior is fully refurbished to like-new condition, with a mix or new, NOS, and meticulously restored original items. Rubber floor cover is like new, with zero tears or flaws. Seat is fully re-sprung and padded, with a new NOS cover, the fuel tank and all associated fuel components and lines are all new, and the entire interior from the trim panels to the visors is brand new. Gauge cluster was fully restored to like new, center cover is like brand new, and the ashtray and glovebox look and show like brand new as well. All of the pedals are new, the emergency brake looks and functions like new, and the heater box is fully restored and looks like brand new. Heater is fully capable of being functional, but the lines were capped at the block and firewall because the truck was intended to be sparingly driven in Florida, which doesn’t require heat. We will happily hook up the two lines for anyone that requires the heating be functional again. The body on the truck was completely removed from the chassis, and the entire thing was acid washed and blasted down to the bare metal before a dizzying number of steps were taken to prepare it for the painter. It is ALL REAL STEEL, and there are NO bondo patches, NO crushed-up beer cans, NO porch screen, and NO backyard ingenuity in this one. An exhausting array of photo’s that come on the CD/DVD’s show the condition the truck was in at the start, which was well-above average, and then over a year was spent perfecting each panel to make sure that when the finished product came together for paint, it was the perfect base. Paint came next, and the House of Kolor SHIMRIN Black Pearl finish is simply stunning no matter where you view it from! The finish is one of the finest you will ever see, and countless hours were spent in finish sanding and buffing the truck to absolute perfection! You can read a text message in the finish, and I tried to take a number of photos showing that the paint truly reflects like a mirror all the way around. There are less than 8 total marks and blemishes to be found on the entire exterior of the truck, and every single one of them is less than 2mm in diameter. I had to put a small piece of masking tape next to each one JUST to remember where they were to count them! I highly doubt that you could even find more than 4 of them, but I have gone over it from front to back about 6 inches away from the body, and could only come up with those 8 total miniscule marks. Any other seller would call it PERFECT, FLAWLESS, or EXCEPTIONAL and not worry about it, but I feel the need to point them out so if you happen to stumble across one you don’t get mad at me! Overall, the finish presents as a 10 out of 10, and will certainly win awards for BEST PAINT at shows events for the new owner. It is slick, smooth, and clean, and the paint lays perfectly over every nook and cranny on the truck. Fit and finish is exceptional, and it shows better than it ever could have on the day it was made it 1948. It starts easily, drives and performs like a brand-new vehicle, and displays no sign of any issues or problems whatsoever. This truck is truly a next-level restoration, and the extensive amount of time and money invested in the build is mind-boggling. The truck comes to you with a clean, clear, and valid Florida title free of any liens and encumbrances. It comes with the four (4) DVD/CD’s that document the build and restoration of the truck. It comes with a photo of the previous owner on the day they bought the truck from Senior Chief James “Patches†Watson, the Plank owner of the Navy Seals. It comes with a 6-volt charging/tender unit for when the truck is in storage. It comes with a dossier of information and receipts for the build. It is an exceptional truck in every way, and we hope that it finds an appreciate new owner and collection to reside in.
That’s about all I can tell you, but I encourage questions and addition photo requests if it helps you make a decision.
