Description of 1948 Ford Other Pickups -- |
Searching for a classic pickup that'll stand out in the crowd while still in possession of its vintage identity? This 1948 Ford F-1 features a handful of tasteful modifications that complement its classic foundation. It offers dependable power in the form of a modern-age engine anchoring a drivetrain that's in top form, and is equipped with a nice comfortable interior that readily lends itself to frequent driving. In the aftermath of WWII, Ford set about creating a line of pickups that no longer shared an underpinning with any of their passenger cars, which allowed the manufacturer to build in an enhanced level of ruggedness to accommodate the heavy toil pickups were expected to handle. This F-1's stout yet curvaceous shortbed form lends itself well to the subtle yet effective handiwork that's been added to the mix - there's a color matched grille and smoothed bumper up front and a modified tailgate with aftermarket lighting looming above a roll pan in back. The blending of original and customized aesthetic elements creates a very effective overall look. Riding slightly lower than factory height and clad in Garnet Red - an appealing take on burgundy - this truck will no doubt pull focus wherever it roams. The paint is still strong, despite having been applied a while back. Clean, lightly tinted glass surrounds the cabin and the body on this vintage Ford is solid, with panels that blend together well. The interior is well-finished, with a pair of plush tan leather buckets taking center stage in the cockpit, tying in well with the door panels to each side. Glance inside and you'll see that this is a really comfortable driving environment - the buckets are nice and broad and spaced in such a way as to maximize shoulder room. Farther forward, the dash area offers an effective blend of new and old - it's still mostly in the same overall configuration it left the assembly line with so many years ago, but now sports white faced VDO gauges in the instrument cluster, as well as some skilled pinstriping, and an underdash air conditioning unit has been added to keep things comfortable throughout the seasons. A GT Grant steering wheel takes the place of the original on a tilting column, with an aftermarket tach placed close by to monitor revs during more inspired driving. The rear bed area looks great, with well prepped wooden planks lining the floor, interspersed with color matched steel tie downs. The pair of additional aftermarket amenities - power windows and an AM/FM/CD stereo - both work flawlessly. Worry free streetability was clearly a priority when this '48 was configured. It runs and drives smoothly and sits on an upgraded suspension, with a modern-era clip up front to pair with a sturdy 9" Ford rear end featuring coilovers. Dependable power comes via the 305 cubic inch V8 on board in the engine compartment, which is armed with an Edelbrock intake manifold and 4-barrel carb and exhales into a pair of aftermarket headers leading to a dual exhaust. The smooth running engine teams with a 4-speed automatic 200-4r transmission to equip this classic with excellent street manners in everyday driving conditions and the added HEI ignition heats up the available spark. A sizable aluminum radiator and electric cooling fan are now in place up front to keep operating temperatures under control. Power steering makes for easy navigation, while power brakes that feature discs up front provide dependable, fade resistant stops. This skillfully modified Ford rides on a set of 15" American Racing Torque Thrust wheels wrapped with Michelin tires. With its tastefully modified presence and comfortable driving experience, this 1948 Ford F-1 is a rare find. Call today! |
