Description of 1955 Ford Customline

Up for sale is a 1955 Ford Customline. I bought this last year with the intent of fixing it up over time, and then I found a 1956 Ford Customline that already had a lot of the work I was planning to do on this one already done. So I bought that one, and now I need to get rid of this one. I always get waves and smiles when driving it, and it would make a great rat rod, if that's where you want to go with it. I had it delivered on a flatbed, and the guy who dropped it off said he'd just cover up the rust spots and drive it how it was. I just drove it over this past weekend (end of January 2020).
The good:
By previous owner(s):
- Updated with a 302 from a mid-70s Mustang and a three speed C4 automatic
- Added an Edelbrock 1405 manual choke carb and an MSD Blaster 2 coil
- Installed a new radiator
- Mounted an electric fuel pump in the back near the gas tank
- Updated the interior with some newer seats and a B&M shifter
- Converted to 12-volt
- Added the 14 inch chrome wheels
- Changed the chrome on the side to a 1956 Ford version
- Added 55 Merc tail lights
- Removed the front and real bumpers and replaced them with steel roll pans
- Removed much of the badging from the hood and trunk
- Removed the door handles and replaced them with poppers
- Added a trunk popper that's accessed from inside the car
- Added front lap belts
- Steers and brakes well enough to drive locally
Added while owned by me:
- Had a new fuel line professionally installed
- Had two lap belts added to the rear set for a total of 4 front and back
- Replaced the ballast resistor in the ignition
- Replaced outside mirror with door-mounted peep mirrors
The bad:
- The frame will need some work, as anyone who has an interest in these cars will know. The mechanics I had look at it said it was fine for running to get ice cream or driving in a parade, but not for long road trips. I have a video of the frame if you're interested. The last picture is of the front crossmember, a typical replacement part for this model car.
- Obviously it will need additional bodywork, depending on how you want to go forward with the car. It's a good 25-footer, but the closer you get, the more you'll see it needs. I put some POR15 on a couple of rust spots on the roof and rear roll pan to stop it spreading.
- The passenger side window will need to be replaced, but it's already been bought and will be included in the sale.
Additional parts included:
- As mentioned, there's a replacement for the passenger side window that has been cracked. The pictures of the car are before that window was cracked. It's not broken out and is still sealed, but the replacement is there once you're ready.
- There's a set of front bumper brackets included. I bought these when I was planning to move it more towards "hot rod" rather than "custom". You may not need them if you're leaving the roll pan, but they're included anyway.
- There's a set of shorty headers in the trunk.
The color is black, with some purplish/bluish highlights around the windows.
I drive the car locally, it steers, runs and brakes fine, but if you're not too close to where I live, I'd probably recommend paying to have someone tow it. Speedometer shows 45398, but I have no idea what the actual mileage is.
I have the title for the car in hand. Serious buyers only, please. Email is probably the best way to get a hold of me initially. I can provide a number to talk after the initial contact.
Sold as is, where it is. No warranty or support from me in any way after the sale. It's a 60 year old car, so please know what you're getting into. Also, note that this car is staring below $5000. You are not getting a show car. There is plenty of work to do with this car, including the frame as mentioned above. I imagine a good welder should be able to fix up the frame fairlyeasily, but I make no promises based on other people's skills or abilities.
A $500 deposit isrequired within 48 hours, and full payment is due with 7 days. I'm happy to work with whoever comes to pick it up to get it loaded.
Please ask any questions before you buy. I will be honest to the best of my knowledge with any questions you ask. Once this is sold, it's your car, warts and all.
