This 1955 Ford Sunliner is just such a car. Fabrication is by Bryan Fuller. who many of you might recognize from shows like "Overhaulin'" and "Naked Speed. and it was finished by the pros at Atlanta Street Rods. making this an incredible car with an equally incredible pedigree. The super sleek look on this Ford was a lot harder to achieve than you'd think. Ford experts will notice the side trim from a '56. but that's only the most obvious mod. Other details include a shaved hood and door handles. a subtly re-shaped bumper and custom grille. a smoothed deck lid. and bodywork that's straight enough to act as a mirror. The paint is Black Cherry. a wonderful color that's both trick and familiar. offering a low-key look that makes a big impact. It's been driven a bit. so it's not perfect. but the obviously quality workmanship is holding up superbly and it could still grab some pretty big trophies at shows. Note the cool custom work that has the exhaust coming out through the rear bumper. the mesh grille that seems to float in the opening. and HID headlights that sparkle under the polished hoods. Of course. it goes without saying that the chrome was restored to show quality and all the stainless trim was buffed to a high shine. This is a car that's all about the details. The interior is mildly updated. easily capturing the best of the '50s and combining it with some modern conveniences. The front seat wears two-tone leather upholstery with pleated inserts. but it's also power-actuated with a rear seat finished to match. The original dashboard and instrument panel were retained. including the domed speedometer with the window in the back to light it up. A tilt column and a vintage steering wheel are a nice combination and the original radio and heat controls are in place. but there's a modern AM/FM/CD head unit installed underneath. A/C vents were added in the dash and almost look like they were born there. working well with the other circular dials in the center. Beautifully tailored carpets feature matching red bindings and the red convertible top is power actuated. The trunk is also expertly finished with matching materials for a very professional look. Many of you will be pleased to note that this Ford still carries Blue Oval power in the form of a 460 cubic inch V8. Fortified with things like Cobra Jet aluminum heads. an aluminum intake manifold. Holley 4-barrel carburetor. and an electronic ignition system. it thumps out more than enough torque to make this vintage Ford feel half its size. Lots of polished aluminum. including the March serpentine belt setup. makes I look great under the hood. and you'll note that the inner panels were custom fabricated and all the wiring and plumbing was expertly hidden out of sight. The chassis is a full custom Art Morrison setup with a Mustang II front suspension and a 4-link out back. all of it painted to match the body. A C6 3-speed automatic feeds a robust 9-inch rear and the entire exhaust system was ceramic coated. including the Flowmaster mufflers. The stance is just about perfect and 4-wheel disc brakes keep it from getting out of hand no matter how hard you drive. Classic-looking billet aluminum wheels have an old-school vibe and carry 235/50/17 front and 245/60/17 rear Michelin radials. An incredible custom built by some of the best in the business and now available for a fraction of its build cost. If you don't love this car. you need to find another hobby.
