Description of 1970 Ford Mustang |
1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 & Ford C8000 Transport Truck Thinning down our family collection and offering up our Boss 302/Transport Truck combo. Very hard to let this pair go but it is time for someone else to enjoy them. If you want ALL the attention at car shows this year....this pair will do it! It has been featured in Mustang Monthly along with numerous other publications. Words from Les Werling the original builder/instigator, “In 1970, Ford Motor Company, under the name of Muscle Motor Sports, published two books on how to make your Boss 302 Trans Am race-ready. My Boss 302 has been constructed following the guidelines outlined in those publications, including the engine and all suspension. The engine features a 1969 steel crank, J&E Pistons, Carrillo Rods, original Bud Moore Mini Plenum 750cfm Holly carb modified by Pro Mod, Crowler roller rockers and a 4-speed Top Loader transmission with a 4.33:1 rear-end. The car started from a genuine G-code 1970 Boss 302 into a near-perfect authentic tribute to Parnelli Jones’ Trans Am Championship winning stallion. The only major deviation from the 1970’s era car are the brakes which are upgraded to a Willwood 4-piston, 4-wheel system.†At the very start, a concours restoration was the plan but plans changed into what you see here. From the body being acid dipped like the originals to consultations with Brian Ferin (current owner of the original #15) every effort was made to prepare it to race conditions for 1970. The engine block is original to the car and was meticulously rebuilt to replicate Trans Am specs by Smokey Yunick Machine Shop in Oceanside. CA. I later installed the original style Bud Moore exhaust system which is thin wall stainless steel. The sound this car makes is incredible! As for the truck, it is a Ford C8000 Cab-Over. These trucks were built by Ford from 1957 to 1990. Although many of these trucks had gasoline engines, this truck is very special in that it is powered by a CAT 3208 V8 Diesel displacing 636-cubic inches. With 210hp and 500ft-lb+ of torque, it moves down the road with ease. Transmission is a manual 10-speed. Truck has air brakes and lots of usable storage. During the truck build, Les consulted with Bud Moore for various details to make sure it was all correct. Bud stated that two transports were built by Holman-Moody in North Carolina for themselves as well as Bud Moore Engineering. Car and truck come with extensive documentation on the builds. Numerous articles are also included that have been written on the pair. Both are street legal and registered here in Kansas. I don’t have to tell you what these would cost to duplicate....a lot! Reserve is set low as this pair is ready to go to a good home! Any questions please let me know.
