Description of 1968 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 (Eleanor) |
1968 Ford Mustang GT500E Eleanor from Shelby Continuation Series Professionally completed by Unique Performance in 2004, this build was one of the first 20 authentic Shelby Eleanor's produced and has since enjoyed many upgrades. Registered in the official Shelby American Registry, it is to be noted that this is an authentic Shelby Eleanor, not to be confused with simply a registered Eleanor. There is a difference and it is good to know this difference as it adds tremendous value to the vehicle. This vehicle comes with a full build specification sheet from Unique Performance, is finished with a stunning pepper gray paint job with black racing stripes, just like Raines' famous Hollywood unicorn. Complimenting the exterior is a spotless black leather interior with wood and brushed aluminum accents. Powering Eleanor is a 351 Windsor V8 motor punched out to a massive 408 cubic inches. There are many supercharged resto-mods but this naturally aspirated engine provides the nostalgia and power of a true muscle car. The impressive motor is mated to a brilliant Tremec T-56 manual transmission and the vehicle features include 4- wheel disc brakes, power steering, fully functioning heat & A/C and much more. The GT500 Eleanor is one of the most iconic Muscle cars in history. However, finding an authentic GT500E Shelby Eleanor can prove to be a bit of a challenge. This pony has been with the same collector for the past 15 years, has been joyfully driven and gently broken in, and has finally come to market. The 1967 modified Shelby Mustang featured in the year 2000 movie, Gone in 60 Seconds, was cited by Hot Rod magazine as being one of the top 100 most influential cars of all time. Responsible for introducing a whole new demographic of "non-car people" into the world of collector and special interest vehicles, it also influenced a few custom car builders and fabricators to re-create the Famed "Eleanor" to meet demands for the car generated by the Hit Movie. While there were a few large companies producing "Eleanor" style mustangs on a tiered package type program, few possess the engineering, quality of fabrication and Shelby authentication than those of cars produced by Unique Performance.
