Description of 1955 Ford Thunderbird

This 1955 Ford Thunderbird was completely refurbished in the late 1980s and is finished in beautiful black lacquer with re-plated chrome moldings and bumpers. Everything shines with a better-than-factory luster and the paint displays the lines of the car well. This car has the original fiberglass auxiliary hardtop, but still retains the black fabric folding top and a black vinyl snap-in tonneau cover. This car is also equipped with skirted rear fenders in chrome, forward raked headlamp guards, push-button door handles, and front and rear bullet-style bumper guards with an amazing sounding dual exit exhaust. One aftermarket item on this car is the so-called Continental Kit, which mounts the spare tire on elongated rear bumper extensions. This was well installed so it is easily reversible depending on taste. The interior was entirely refinished in “Code A” black and white vinyl in the correct pattern and high-quality cut and sew. The interior features a two-person manual bench seat, original nylon loop carpeting, a 17-inch plastic and chrome telescoping steering wheel, the original Town & Country AM radio, and a heater/defroster.
This Thunderbird is fitted with its original OHV special 90-degree V8 providing 292 Cubic Inches of displacement and 192BHP. It is inducted by a 4-bbl Holley carburetor with a chrome-plated oil-bath air cleaner. The engine is coupled by a 3 speed manual with an automatic planetary 4th-speed overdrive gear with a separate t-handle control. Following this is a Hotchkiss drive shaft spinning a 3.92 hypoid differential. This first-gen bird is an excellent, rust-free, meticulously refurbished and maintained example that any collector would be proud to own.
