1940 Ford Coupe So just what is a 'business coupe' you might ask? Back in the early days of the automobile, manufacturers built low priced, two door sedans with a shortened roofline, small back side windows and no back seat. The space behind the three passenger front seat was utilized for carrying small items one might use in conducting business on the road such as salesman's samples and doctor's satchels. The earliest examples of these cars were sometimes referred to as 'doctor's cars' or 'doctor's coupes,' for just that reason. The business coupes were generally the lowest priced, entry level models. Standard two door sedans, on the other hand, had traditional, longer rooflines and a back seat for the kids or other passengers. This Ford for Forty takes its initial factory design and works out over just a bit, shaves bumpers, trimmings and badges off, then it dips itself in wild pink, and adds some nifty polished Weld racing wheels, rear fatties, and a custom interior, and we have just given ourselves the automotive version of a pink nurple! Read on!! Exterior Like a fresh tube of pink lipstick which would be proud as its bathed in an audacious bodacious coat of it puckering away and shining like a new pair of cool cordovans, with some glistening soles on each corner. The Art Nouveau design front end just screams chrome sex with its waterfall grille, molding itself into the hood and fenders on either side. The curvaceousness continues with those teardrop headlight bezels bold and bright and keeping its shine like the rest of the car. It almost brings a teardrop too my eye. A bulbous hood rises upward from this chromed grille and works its way back to the front glass of the car. Doors have been shaved of their handles, and the curves continue with the fenders morphing into running boards and then again into the rear fenders which frame the swooping trunk lines. Chromed sergeant stripe like taillights adorn each fender near the bottom and dual chrome tips peek out from underneath the shaved rear. A shout out to the split rear window which keeps with the curves and presents as somewhat oval. Weld Racing wheels are all around wrapped in Hoosier radial rubber. Interior A pop of the automatic doors and it's all business (coupe) in here and all in white door panels with a single billet handle. Everything else follows suit inside with a thin custom metal dash in purple, with a long oval shaped central gauge cluster with white faced AutoMeter gauges and chromed bezels. A fabricated and covered in white vinyl central console houses the gear shift lever, a Sony AM/FM/CD player, and Vintage Air. Nice white buckets which show slight dirt and some wear are installed in front of the dash, and an extra bonus, in a small rear bench stretching across and just underneath the rear split window. A tighty whitey headliner is above, and some dark gray carpeting is reserved for the floors. Drivetrain The 350ci TH350 combo is underneath the hood, with polished intake, snappy headers, and Edelbrock valve covers, and air cleaner case. This is atop a 4-barrel carburetor, and all is retaining its polished surfaces nicely within the black coated engine bay. Mounted on back a narrowed Ford 9-inch rear is on to allow for those rear fatties. Undercarriage Underneath, we see all newer ladder bar and coil over rear suspension, and mid 1970's ford Mustang front suspension. Nice new floorpans, sturdy rails and body hangers abound underneath. Power front disc brakes are on, and power drums haunt the big rear tires and wheels. Drive-Ability A super quick fire and those 8 cylinders come to life, and it's off to the test track. Snappy acceleration, smooth shifting for the automatic Turbo 350, and cool handling kept me firmly planted into the seat, which was comfortable. Air blows cold, and all functions are functioning. If your goal is to have fun with a driver, and turn a few heads in the process, or create your one car parade down main street then come on down! Gracing our north hall, and screaming out for attention, this custom rodded, shaved, fatty added rear buxom Ford is awaiting your touch and gaze. A few little faults on the paint, and some scuffs on the interior, but a quick pounce over and she will be just lip smacking-ly sweet.
