1976 Ford Mustang 2 Cobra

Here is your chance to own a two owner, mostly original survivor 1976 Ford Mustang Cobra. If you have been looking for one of these cars, you already know it is hard to find one that it not completely rusted out. I attribute the car’s overall original condition to the fact that the original owner purchased this car in California and stayed there until 1986.He then moved to Missouri and continued to enjoy the car until he parked it in a barn where it sat for many years.The original California title was surrendered to Missouri when it was titled here. I have a copy of the previous Missouri title which shows this, but not the California title.

According to the original owner, the car sat in the barn until it was recommissioned in 2019. To get the car back into running shape, the original 302 V-8 motor and carburetor were rebuilt; a new water pump, fuel pump,and starter were installed. Chrome valve covers were installed, but I have the originals that will go with the car. Additionally, a new gas tank and sending unit was installed along with a new master cylinder; the original radiator was also re-cored and the rear hatch lifts have been replaced. To top it off, new tires were installed. The car starts immediately and runs excellent. The transmission is reported to be the original automatic that shifts smoothly, firmly, and on command.

I consider the overall condition of this Mustang to be good for its age. The car is operational, runs and drives, and goes down the road. This mustang appears to be mostly original with the factory stripes, stickers, and identification labels remaining on the car. Of course, this Mustang is 44 years old so naturally it does show some wear and is not a new car.

The undercarriage and body panels of this car are relatively rust free; however, this does not mean that it is completely rust free. The undercarriage is solid with absolutely no rust holes or flaking, but it does show signs of light surface rust. The areas directly behind the rear wheels on the lower quarter panels do show some signs of rust but I am told they do not need to be replaced and are completely repairable/re-paintable. The rockers,firewall, etc. are all rust free and show very well.

This car still has what I believe is mostly original paint and can be enjoyed as is, but if you want a pristine car this one will have to be repainted. I personally like the unrestored look because it shows the patina very well and looks like a car straight out of the 70’s.

The interior of the car is complete,but as expected for an unrestored car, does show some signs of wear.The top portion of the dash is cracked and the front seat has minor tears. The weather stripping is also original and is cracking. If you plan on driving this car home, please note the driver’s side seatbelt is worn and should be replaced in my opinion. The items that I know that do not work include the tachometer and rear defroster.

Also, this car does leak small amounts of oil. You will see spots in the garage floor if it sits for long periods of time.
