Description of 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible |
This 1965 Ford Mustang convertible was built on May 29, 1964 and is powered by a D-code 289ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. The car was acquired out of Macon, Georgia from the family of a long-term previous owner prior to a refurbishment in 2016 that included refinishing the body, reburbising the interior, overhauling the braking and suspension systems, and rebuilding the powertrain. Finished in correct Vintage Burgundy over a black vinyl interior, the car features a powered black soft top, Rally-style wheels, and bucket seats. We acquired the car in 2019 and have since driven it approximately 50 miles. Runs and drives like a new 1964-1/2 Mustang. In 2016 the exterior was stripped and the car was subsequently refinished in its factory-delivered Vintage Burgundy (X) at Wilkey & Kring Motorsports of Athens, Tennessee. Features include a powered black soft top and a matching boot cover as well as original Mustang and 289 badging. Rally-style 14″ wheels are mounted with 205/70 BFGoodrich red-line tires. The trim tag indicates that this car was delivered with a white vinyl interior (46), and during the 2016 Restoration a complete new black interior was professionally installed including new lap belts, door panels, and carpeting. Rubber floor mats with an embossed Mustang logo have also been fitted along with a correct AM radio. All weatherstripping, seals and gaskets were replaced during the Rotisserie restoration. A three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a horizontal 120-mph speedometer flanked by gauges for fuel level and water temperature. Additional features include warning lights and a single turn indicator as well as an integrated five-digit odometer that shows just under 81k miles. The gauge cluster and the dashboard reportedly have been rebuilt to like-new condition. The D-code 289ci V8 was Ford’s top-spec engine when the first Mustang was launched, and it served as a mid-range option when the K-code was released months later. The D-code engine was delivered new with a four-barrel carburetor and was rated at 210 horsepower. A three-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels through a conventional differential with a 3.00:1 gear ratio. No trades Please Contact Seller with any questions or offers.
