The Ford was handcrafted over a two-year period finished in January of 2011. Cabernet 37 won first place in five successive car shows in which it was entered including: The Grand National Roadster Show, Sacramento Autorama, Goodguys Del Mar National, Annual Seal Beach Classic, Wheels & Waves Classic Car Show and Pismo Beach Classic. The car still looks 100% fresh and newly restored. While keeping with the traditional look and characteristics of this now 83 year old pre-war Ford Slant, this rare all steel ’37 features virtually all the luxury items and creature comforts that one would expect to find in a modern high performance automobile. Features such a four speed automatic transmission, huge power four wheel disc brakes, power rack & pinion steering, Vintage Air conditioning, custom designed instrumentation, a custom designed premium leather upholstered interior by the legendary Ron Mangus, a 100% Henry Ford steel body, a one-off set of powder-coated Wheel Smith Artillery Wheels as well as a sophisticated state of the art multi speaker CD/iPod stereo system. As noted in the extensive Special Equipment list and as depicted in the over 200 photographs, this unique Street Rod was custom fabricated using the finest materials and performance components available. The caliber of all work performed on this custom Street Rod is of the absolute highest quality, the entire vehicle is both highly detailed as well as being fully functional and extremely well finished. The body work is perfection in every way possible. Take a look at the many closeup pictures I have taken to showcase just how straight and exacting this car is. Look at the level of “blocking†that was done on the fenders to achieve the precision line-peaks in each. The shut-lines are all perfection, with edges that match. PERFECTION.
The PPG Paint color - Candy Cabernet is stunning. Flat and perfect. Pictures were taken mid-day in high sunlight and at the twilight hour near sunset. The car takes on a completely different look depending on the time of day. During the day is is truly a Cabernet Red, like a glass of fine wine. In the shadows it turns almost black. Notice in the first shots that I will have one picture high-sunlight and same picture nearing sunset. This is one of the finest colors I have ever seen on an automobile. The Heidts front-end with power steering, Wilwood brakes with QA-1 adjustable shocks and polished sway-bars gives you the confidence of more modern Ferrari than a ’34 Ford. This thing ROCKS. The engine is a 383 Stroker Chevy Small Block including a hydraulic roller cam, aluminum heads and Joe Hunt Magneto Distributor with four Weber’s designed by Jim Inglese. The 425 plus horsepower machine is mated to a new 700R overdrive automatic transmission. The car benefits from an original style shifter and linkage retained to keep the car’s period correct appearance. The dual-exhaust is ceramic coated to finish the aesthetic rear view of the car with panache and a gorgeous growl to let onlookers know this is no ordinary old Ford. The overall balance and feel to this beautiful machine is simply unmatched in fun factor. Driving it on the freeway is akin to cruising in an S-Class Mercedes. AC and your tunes coming through the incredible sound system. Then again, you may just want to shut it all off and listen to the wonderful music emitted from the exhaust system. The interior has been specifically designed to accent the outer presentation with absolute class by Ron Mangus. With modern safety features, comfort amenities and superb attention to detail, the car delivers driver and passengers the luxury of a prestigious late model touring car, while maintaining the historic thrill of the stock appearance. All additional controls are hidden from view. Every feature works including the power front cowl vent. Expertly tailored in fine buckskin tan leather, contrasting baseball stitching, suede headliner, German square weave carpets, walnut burl dash with garnish moulding, power lumbar seats, tilt steering wheel, with Juliano’s custom banjo-style steering wheel (wood grained to match dash and door trim). Kenwood sound system with iPhone/iPad plug-in, Vintage AC, heater and defroster, power windows with original rollup handles and three-point safety belts in both front and rear seats. This tremendous Slant Back rides on Michelin performance radials mounted on powder-coated 16†Wheel Smith Artillery wheels, once again combining practical high performance with originality. I am helping a good friend sell this flawless ’37. Just as a matter of reference, I have been judging cars at all types of levels including Concours for over 25 years and have extensive experience in restoration of many marques. I am extremely picky and probably grade more on the lower side when evaluating vehicles. I rate this car simply as “Concourâ€. It is ready to show at any level or venue.
