The truck is an original Rangoon Red and Wimbledon White 128" Styleside pickup truck. This truck has been in the Washoe Valley in between Reno and Carson City in the Nevada high desert for all of its life. The truck was owned by an old Nevada cowboy who built his Ford truck to fit his needs and be capable enough to roam the Nevada side of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The truck is an original Rangoon Red and Wimbledon white truck with a Custom Cab and Red Crush interior. However the original 262cid 6 cylinder motor was ditched for a big powerful Ford Fe 428cid V8 motor. The combination of the alpine mountains of Lake Tahoe, to the arid high desert of the Washoe Valley, makes the availability to use 4 wheel drive a must at times in this environment. The need for a 4x4 truck was so much so he had the truck converted into 4 wheel drive complete with the same 3 drive shaft divorced tansfer case heavy duty suspension setup as a factory 4x4 Ford truck. The front axle is a Dana 44 front axle commonly seen on most factory 4x4 Ford trucks. The transfer case is a Spicer Model 24 2 speed transfer case. Not commonly known is a 2wd F100 frame is the same narrow frame used for F250 4x4 trucks with divorced transfer cases commonly called "highboys", this makes the conversion to factory spec very simple and straight forward. A PTO Warn Winch was installed to the front as well as a functional hood mounted sixties era tachometer.1964 Ford trucks have an iconic classic truck look with perfect proportions that is unmistakablyfrom the mid sixties. These trucks share a lot of the same styling cues made famous by other Fords of the era like the Mustang and later the Ford Bronco. Styling over performance was still the priority for the majorityof the folks at Ford Motor Company at this time. Performance oriented trucks were still decades away and a big block was not introduced into a 4x4 Ford until the eighties. These facts are what makes this 1964 Ford F100 intriguing. This truck is that stylish 1964 Custom Cab Ford F100 stylside pickup, but the hood mounted tachometeronly seen on muscle cars reveals there is something more to this truck. Its a period correct Sixties performance 4x4 Ford truck that Ford Motor Company never actually built. Don't miss out on the opportunityto own this unique hot rod truck.Cosmetically this truck is in fantastic condition for a 56 year old truck. The Rangoon Red and Wimbeldon White is one of the best combinationsseen on a sixties Ford truck and looks stunning. The paint is an originalcombination for this truck but has been repainted in the seventies with old quality paint not seen in today'spaint selection. The body is quite straight there are some dings and dents here and there as expected with a 56 year old truck but overall a straight rig. There is no rust in the floors of the truck as well as no rust in the roof or the fenders or in the bed. There is a little bit on steps when you open the door otherwise the truck is a pretty rust free truck that has benefited form the dry climate of Nevada. All of the chrome is in decent condition and original. The hood mounted tachometer came off of a 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 and fits the look and lines of 64 Ford truck. The PTO warn winch is also functional. The bed of the truck is rust freeand pretty straight not showing signs of being used as a wood truck. The fenders are straight and free of large dents or damage. The bed had a black coating that has mostly come off revealing a lot of the original Rangoon Red paint. In 1964 Ford looked to boost sales by introducingthe first double walled bed design for a strong more rigid design, the tailgate was also redesigned to be more durable.Step Inside this truck and you're stepping back in time. The simple styling lacking all the screens and controls seen in modern cars is refreshing. This truck is a Custom Cab complete with Custom Cab gauges and door panels which are in great shape. The original dash and steering wheel are in great shape. The original headliner is still all together and has not crumbled away. The seat has been reupholstered and is comfortable with no rips or tears. There is a new carpet as well. When the carpet was being installed no holes were found in the floors. All of the lights are functional as well as the radio. The interior of this truck is in great shape for 56 years old.Mechanically this truck is in good condition. The motor starts up on the first crank and runs strong. The motor was described as 60s 428cid Ford FE V8 Motor. The valve covers are Aluminum vintage Holly valve covers. There is a performance aluminum Eldebrock intake manifold as well as a 4 barrel Eldebrock carburetor. The drive train has Dana 44 Ford front axle with a 5 lug bolt pattern, and a Dana 60 off of a heavier duty F250 with 8 lugs with 4.11 gears with Positive traction. The original 4 speed Warner heavy duty truck transmission has a third drive shaft connecting it to the Spicer Model 24 transfer case. This 3 drive shaft setup enables a higher ride height giving it the nickname "Highboy". The dual exhaust gives this truck a fantastic grumble. Overall this truck is mechanically sound, its a strong running truck that hauls ass and a great example of 1960's heavy duty trucktechnology.
