Description of 1931 Ford Model A |
Hand BuiltALL STEEL 1931 Ford Roadster Pickup. The truck started its life with a 1931 Brookville Cowl and stock floor pan and 4 door skins Brownsville, two on each side, and the hand made inner door structures whichwere built using a shrinker and stretcherto get the compound curveat the rear door openings. The framewas also hand built starting with 40 inch frame horns from AmericanStamping Corporation and the rest of the rails were fabricatedfrom sheet steel and various sizes of Steel tubing for the crossmembers. A model A crossmember sits up front and holds the Posieschrome leaf springs mounted behind the Super Bell drilled axle. Pete and Jakes Viper Hair Pins keep everything aligned.Mounting the springs behind the axles gets the truck a much lower lookbut required a lot of frame fabricationand modification, like notchingthe rails, lengthening the steering arms and mounting the springperches to the batwings and also raising the motor mounts to keep the motor from rubbing the pavement. At theback of the truck, is a 1948 GE refrigerator that was widened 10 inches to make up the rounded pickup box. The bed inside the rear trunkis real teak wood, and the interior of the fridge is leather, which houses a 16 gallon fuel tank. 1/2 inch square tubing frames the tonneau cover and removable top, both covered by Harts Cloth. Underneaththe fridge is a Polished Winters V-8 Quick-changerear end($$$) with 3.72 gears and 31 hardened splinedaxles. The rear springs are also Pete & Jakes Viper Coil-over shocks connected by a Pete& Jakes ladder bars. Both Front and rear spreader bars are hand built and have slight bends in them to follow the body lines. The wheels are American Racing Torque Thrust II (10x20's Rear, 8x17's Front) wrapped in BFG Rubber. 4 wheel Disc Brakes - Polished rear drum covers for over the11-inch Ford discbrakes. Up front the truck stops with Super Bells Super Stopper Disc Brakes with fully polished finned aluminum backing plates.Ridetech front shocks help to provide a smooth ride ($$). The Windshieldframe was rough aluminum casting from Ian Roussel (Famous Car Builder), which was fabricated smooth to eliminate the center divider. The Cowl of the the Brookville Body had to be cut smooth to accommodate the raked windshieldframe. Handmade steel side plate shave small stainless marine louvers installed at the bottoms attached with tiny stainless button head fasteners. A2-inch longer Rootlieb hood, with hand built hinges and latches cover the fully rebuilt ex-police cruisers 350 ci Chevy motor, hooked up to a 700r4 transmission. Block hugger headers connect to a 2-1/2 inch stainlessexhaust quited by Magnoflo Mufflers. Cooling is handled by aWalker Desert Cooler Radiator. Headlights are King Bees mounted to the 1932 Ford Grille. The interior is made starting with hand built wooden back to give the seat a "laid back" feeling, covered in camel leather.German square weave carpet covers the floor. Classic instrument Wing Quad gaugesfit into the 1932 ford dash. A painted aluminum consolehouses the lokar shifter. A custommachined aluminum column drop holds the ididit tilt column. Steering is handled with a Juliano's Banjo steering wheel, connected to a flaming River vega gearbox, which works and handles perfectly. The truck is painted with high endDuPont products, the color is Sunset Effects base with 5 coats of clear. The underside of the truck is just as clean as the top side.
