Description of 1966 Ford Thunderbird |
Fully optioned Thunderbird convertible equipped with favorable 428ci V8 and automatic transmission, air conditioning, dual power seats, power windows, roadster tonneau cover, speed control, Stereo-sonic audio system, and more! Showing only 44,500 actual miles! Final year of the classic T-Bird Convertible! The newly revised fourth generation Thunderbird hit the streets in 1964 showcasing crisper body lines, squaring off at the fenders at the front and rear. It maintained the quad headlights and wheelbase of the previous design with similar grill and bumpers. The popular sequential rear turn signals were incorporated in 1965, made even more famous as an attribute on Carol Shelby's GT Mustangs. Also new for 1965 were standard power front disc brakes aiding in superior stopping power. The final year of this generation came about in 1966, with a full revision of the front grill, introduction of the single blade style front bumper, and a unique full length rear taillight panel. It would also be the last year you could own a Thunderbird Convertible until the retroversion designed for 2002, and the first year you can order the larger 428ci V8 under the hood! This new 7.0L FE big block produced 345 horsepower/462 lb. ft. of torque with 10.5:1 compression and Holley carburetion, all backed by the durable C6 3-speed automatic transmission and 9" rear end with 31-spline axles! Only 5,049 convertibles would be produced in 1966, with fewer packing the 428ci power plant, making this particular "America's Personal Luxury Car" from Ford a rare commodity to have in any collection! Offered here is fully optioned 1966 Ford Thunderbird Convertible finished in factory code correct L- Ivy Yellow with optional code 66- Black Leather interior! The original owner of this very special T-Bird left nearly no option box unchecked as his went down the order form! It features the 428ci-4V V8 engine, C6 column-shift automatic transmission, Tilt-Away steering column, Select-Aire air conditioning, fiberglass roadster tonneau cover, dual 6-way power front seats, power windows, day/night rearview mirror, white sidewall tires, all tinted windows, hazard flasher, power steering & brakes, power folding convertible top, rear fender skirts, body side moldings, rubber interior floor mats, and electric clock! New for 1966 options also include Stereo-sonic AM/8-track tape audio system with 4 speakers and the Highway Pilot Speed Control system allowing the car to accelerate and decelerate using the steering wheel controls. A feature we have grown accustomed to using today! This wonderfully cared for Thunderbird has traveled just 44,554 miles according to the odometer reading, and continues to remain solid and rust free! All features are fully functional right down to the air conditioning and dash clock! Although we were unable to test the functionality of the 8-track tape player. It was originally equipped to have unique combination red band & white wall tires, of which you can see with the factory original spare tire still housed in the trunk compartment along with all original tire changing equipment. To find a T-Bird this remarkably original and unmodified is quite a treat! It retains all factory VIN stamps on the cowl and core support, body VIN identification tag on the door, and aluminum drivetrain tags ensuring you are getting a superbly authentic and original example! We encourage all prospective buyers to consider scheduling your chance to review this one before it gets away! Thanks, as always, for looking at our hand selected inventory! |
