Description of 1953 Ford F-100

  • Up for sale is a 1953 Ford F100 1/2 ton pickup with the original flathead v8 and manual transmission. This truck was drivable when I purchased it but had been sitting for a while. My intention was to get it functioning mechanically then with the help of a body man friend blow it apart and do the required body work, paint, etc. Unfortunately that help is no longer available and, not being a body man, I'm forced to let it go. The engine runs very well, and the 3 speed (on the column), transmission shifts nicely. I was told the engine was rebuilt at one point but was given no documentation to verify that. The following work has been completed to date;
  • New brake system, including shoes, wheel cylinders, brake lines and hoses, and a dual master cylinder
  • Converted to 12 volt, (voltmeter added)
  • Brand new battery, solenoid, coil and a 1 wire alternator
  • Rebuilt carburetor
  • All new wiring
  • New tail lights and parking lights
  • New signal light system
  • Exhaust headers
This truck is a 50th anniversary model, which I've been told explains the column shift, the unique radio, the spotlight, etc. You will notice in the photos that the truck is multicolored. The explanation given was that either the original owner or his friend who received the truck after his passing painted it red, then blue. When the second owner passed, the daughter had it pressure washed, and most of the red and blue paint came off. For being 67 or 68 years old the truck is pretty straight and solid, but rust has taken its hold on a few areas. The box, rear fenders, hood and doors are very solid, as is the frame. The running boards and front valence should be replaced. The front fenders have some rust in the corners, but are definitely repairable. The main issue is the front cab corners and front floor. These areas will need some serious work, depending on your goals for the truck. The windshield and back glass are in good shape, but the side windows are cracked. Fortunately, everything one would need to make this a very presentable truck is readily available. It's a running, driving vehicle that has had several mechanical updates but that has some body issues. Most everything works, (headlights, tail lights, signals, brake lights, gauge lights, horn, and wipers). There is great potential here.
